Keenan HS grad, drummer for Prince to be awarded key to Columbia

(Columbia) May 12, 2004 - The City of Columbia is honoring a native son who has showcased his talents around the world.

In April WIS News 10 followed drummer John Blackwell as he stopped by his alma mater, Keenan High School. John eventually went to Berklee College of Music in Boston after graduating from Keenan in 1991.

Blackwell's skills earned him a spot as the drummer with Prince and the New Power Generation four years ago. He was in town for a concert with the Grammy award-winning group last month.

On Wednesday the City of Columbia is presenting him with a key to the city at 4:00pm at City Hall.
