Would a new single/video help Musicology's sales now?

Do you think that a new single/video help Musicology's sales now? It seems Prince/Sony put everything into the 1st Single "Musicology" and then Prince put a stop to the Sony version of the single. A classic Prince-bone-headed-move. It reminds me of when he got "bored" with Sign"O" the Times. He stopped promoting the album, his BIGGEST mistake ever.

I think they need (Prince R U LISTENING??!?!?!) put out a great video with the BEST possible single. I do not think it should be "On the Couch", or "Call My Name". Let's face it as good as some of Prince's ballads are, they have not been well received in the general public's ears.

I think if they get an A-list director and do a funny video to "Illusion, Coma, Pimp, Circumstance". I think it's something that's musically different and it would be a video that would get someone's attention.

But as long as it takes to get a video made and on the air, It looks like there will be no more videos made for this LP.

What do you think?

Not sure why you conclude that it was Prince who put a stop to anything. A new/well made video couldn't hurt, but everyone here has their own opinion about which song it should be. (Pretty much every song should be the next single according to the org, except LOTP.)

ICP&C would be fine I guess, but most "funny" music videos aren't really all that funny imo, so I won't shed any tears if they don't choose that one.

I think it's too soon to think that Prince has abandoned the project. They have more than enough time to film a video during the tour's hiatus.

I didn't hear anything about Prince scrapping further publicity for the CD. Actually, I was just "pushing" the CD to my next door neighbor. It's a good CD. I mean, I think all the songs are good, except for IMC&P and Cinnamon Girl, other than those tunes, I think the CD is hot.

I really think Prince has enough time to do another video and he should.

Besides, when "Around The World In A Day" debuted, Prince said he wouldn't do any singles or videos for that LP, however, we all know the story with that one.

Give it a chance.

He will deliver if he wants to.

Well, like it or not the album is dropping in sales already. If it was not for the concert sales, it would be almost be off the charts. I never hear it on Minneapolis radio either.

YES. They should release another song and video soon. That's why Usher & everybody else is on top, so if they can do it, Prince VERY WELL can too. nod

Prince: Ooooh, look at me I'm Prince, I'm a musical genius la la la! Usher sucks, music sucks, the record industry sucks, hey Columbia can you promote my album so I can be cool again?
COlumbia Exec: Sure, Prince. I really respect your music and I think with your core fan base and a smart ad campaign we can really have something.

A YEAR LATER.

Prince: Oooooh, look at me I'm Prince, I'm kind of cool again. Now that I have everyone's attention I'm gonna jump ship and fuck mani in the seclusion of my mansion in Toronto, la la la! Usher sucks, music sucks, the record industry sucks, I shouldn't have to do more than make one video and release one single...you people don't know talent when you see it f-u!!
Columbia Exec: Why don't we make another video? Maybe something live from a performance coupled with an album track, kind of like the old meeting the new. Then for the live track we can have a live video and for the ALbum cut we can make a great little narrative video.
Prince: No. I don't need to. I am a musical genius. DId Stevie Wonder do Videos? Did Hendrix?
CE: Uh, first of all, Stevie did do videos and Hendrix was too fried to do anything but play the guitar and choke on his own vomit.
Prince: *whispering to Mani*

why does it need help?
his new album and tour have been widely praised, he
seems to be having fun,
what difference does it make if he's "on top"?

doesn't seem relevant.
it's not a contest, it's art.

man do u have BAD information Musicology is STILL in the top 10 and this week after about 50% of the sales counted it has sold over 45,000 copies so it should almost do 90,000 this week! and thats WITHOUT THE CONCERT CD'S added yet and that will only be a small percentage drop from the previous week! i agree there needs to be a new video soon but the album is doing great right now .....

Octavius

The success of the album thus far is born of so many things other than the title track, like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, the Grammy performance, the tour, and a shitload of promotion from Sony and appearances by Prince. If he keeps this single out there too long, it's going to kill this album. Get something else out there, and fast.

Three weeks, and still in the top 10 BEFORE concerts are figured...that's inarguably a lot more staying power than he's had recently...or many other recently. It's not gonna do Usher numbers, but it can already pretty much be called a "minor" hit. It'll go to major if a single catches on.

Much of radio may be ignoring the first single, but the video channnels have not. It's still on all the time.
Plus, the video has been available for download on MTV, VH1, AOL, & Yahoo, and probably others.
I think the video's heavy rotation is helping to offset radio ignoring it.
Anyway, you don't need P to tell to you that most radio stations are beyond worthless. Here in NYC, it would probably surprise many to know that there is not one alternative rock station. There was one years ago with a weak signal, but it went adult contemporary.
Conmmercial radio on the "people's airwaves" lol , with it's lame dj's, commercials, and lack of choice is thankfully being rendered more irrelevant each day with the availability of satellite radio, internet radio (aol, msn. etc) digital cable (plenty of commercial and dj free stations there), and the wide availability of music on the internet in general.
Good riddance!

lol Yes, I been a HUGE fan since 1982. I was 10. That's my point Prince's albums always go on the charts and die a quick "chart death". It's a good thing he's put out the number of albums that he does. Do we want to get into the SINGLES he's released and NEVER HIT THE TOP 40 ??!??!

I agree ICPC could make a great video, but Prince would have to make something more than a performance video, which he never seems to do.

I agree ICPC could make a great video, but Prince would have to make something more than a performance video, which he never seems to do.
