I mean, embarassing if you perceive rove to be representing Oz but I don't think like that and I'm sure P doesn't. In fact, p looked like he enjoyed it on the whole. Can any1 be bothered doing a transcript? When he goes on the telly, and talks to an international "star", i believe Rove is "representing" the folk in Australia, and I couldn't be more embarrassed. P did a fantastic job putting up with all that, and I do not think that he was comfortable, as many on here seem to think that he was. Rather, he dealt with all the crappy remarks Rove threw at him, by simply smiling it off. In one instance, P looked as tho he couldn't believe he was being asked such a stupid question, and i think he was sarcastic in his reply to Rove. Rove was like this kid i went to school with. No matter matter what he said, and no matter how dumb people thought he was, he would still make sure his remarks were heard, through his loud and obnoxious personality. He even had those "rabbit" teeth that Rove has.....hang on, maybe it's him...

Perhaps part of the contract with sony is some serious self promotion? He has tried the alternative and it made him disappear from the public eye, hence nobody knew he was still making his precious music!!!. Maybe it isn't for the money? Say all he wants is to get his albums out there to educate the kids about "real music" (which he tried to say in the interview but it didn't really make much sense). But he can't afford to give away all the CDs, so he will just have to sell them. Exactly. He could have said more about the album and the whole idea behind 'musicology'. Hi ally When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

charlottegelin said: My husband was still fuming about this interview over breakfast this morning. He said here was Prince's big chance to get aussies buying the CD, and he's blown it. He didn't talk about the new album like he could've, he was so passive, basically letting Rove ask him the usual lame questions without adding anything of his own. I don't know, maybe it was too early in the morning over there or something, but he should've taken the opportunity to sound excited about the album at least. Nobody watching that inteview would go out and buy Musicology unless they were diehards in the first place, and what is the point in agreeing to all these interviews if your aim isn't to sell records. Just my opinion.
Sometimes it is hard to add somethin' of your own in there, when the questions are. indeed. for the most part, quite crap. There are questions that you can ask, which ensure that the interviewee cannot answer in just two words, and a "real" interviewer knows this. A question about how many instruments he can play? Well done Rove, ur'e a bloody star mate. I can think of better questions in my sleep, but i am a fan, and i doubt Rove is. That's the problem. I doubt he even went to 1 of his shows here, in which case, he shouldn't really interview P in the first place. Perhaps, P should've chosen better.....Molly would have asked better questions, and his does know a lot about anything that is MUSIC. Oh, and Rove's humour? Utterly crap. In all seriousness, did any1 actually laugh at the beginning of the show, when Rove was going on about all that crap, like Leno or Letterman do?? That Peter fella is hell better at making me laugh. The only positive thing people can say about Rove, is that he is a "nice bloke". That's it.

this is basically it .. i cut the ums, ahhs and er's tho
peace ROVE : Ladies and Gentlemen, Prince PRINCE : How are you ROVE : Im doing very well how are you PRINCE : Ah, great ROVE : Well,First off congratulations for being inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, How did it feel to be inducted PRINCE : ah, it was a cool feeling, um what I dug most was jammin with the musicians, alot of them are my friends I hadnt seen em in a while, and It was a good night, ROVE : And I would think it must be the ultimate music honour to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, what does receiving an award like that mean to you PRINCE : ah, well I never really got off on awards so much. I think its more for the people who give them and also for the fans. I get alot of props from people in the street and a lot of love and congratulatory pats on the back so its a good feeling, you know, the after effects ROVE : Well I tell you what, for a guy whose won 7 Grammies and an oscar it must be pretty good to not have to get off on awards PRINCE : (chuckles) Well, thats not why I, I make the music so ROVE : Well, if you dont want them, I'll take them PRINCE : You got it ROVE : OK .... well now of course at the Grammies you performed a duet of Purple Rain with Beyonce Knowles, which stole the show. How did it feel for you to perform with someone like her who you've inspired so much PRINCE : Well, yeah, shes also an inspiration to me, she's very talented, shes a smart vocalist and the more she stays centered with the music and learns instruments, the better she'll be ROVE : Well, you yourself know how to play many instruments as well, how many do you know how to play PRINCE : (laughs) thousands ROVE : (laughs) thousands PRINCE : (still gigglin) ROVE : Well, whats the most obscure instrument you know how to play PRINCE : um, I can play pretty much anything, its whether or not its good ROVE : Well, have you ever played a Lager Phone, an Australian instrument called the Lager Phone PRINCE : ah, no I never even heard of that one ROVE : ok, well, let me, let me run you thru it, its pretty much its like ah, its it, well its pretty much just a broomstick handle and you nail bottle caps to it and then you just bang it on the ground PRINCE : that Sounds funky huh ROVE : oh yeah its right up there, and you know feel free to ah use it in your next clip or while your on tour, ya know just get a bit of Lager Phone action going on there PRINCE : Next time im in Sydney or Melbourne I might drop some of that on you ROVE : Sounds very good to me. Now of course the name of your current album is Musicology, now what does the word Musicology actually mean PRINCE : Well, when I grew up I listened to alot of the masters of the time. Motown sound, James Brown, Sly Stone and I studied them, I studied the way they put their sounds together and what I hope is that young musicians today will listen to how I put my sounds together on this record ROVE : And What do you hope they'll learn from that PRINCE : yeah well, im trying to bring the song back, I dont think there are alot of songs out there now, there's alotta just grooves and dancing's cool but after a while the mind just gets numb ROVE : Do you think theres a bit of a problem with the amount of manufactured groups and performers that seem to be churned out by alot of the record companies at the moment PRINCE : um, well it ah, theres just theres not alot of balance there seems to be so much manufactured pop out there that ya know, i dont know where we're gonna end up at the end of all of this. Maybe just a big computer chip, who knows. But my responsibility is too the musicians and I try to keep that alive through what we're doing now ROVE : Now, I read recently, where you said of American Idols William Hung that we need somebody to release albums like these, now what did you mean by that PRINCE : well, theres always a market for music like that so record companies are cool in that regard but you know as technology moves into .. lightning speed ... situations, we need to try to take some of that and see if we cant do different things with the delivery of music and also the production of it ROVE : Now, Have you actually had a chance to listen to William Hungs album, its quite unique PRINCE : (funky voice) No I havent really taken the time and ya know, put that on ROVE : well, I highly recommend it, highly recommend it now I tell you what, theres a guy who needs a Lager Phone I'll tell you that much PRINCE : (laughs) ROVE : Now I was actually fascinated to learn that when you were a child, to teach yourself how to play music, you learnt TV themes is this true PRINCE : ah yeah that was the first music that I heard in repetition ROVE : And what was some of the favourite tunes you enjoyed playing PRINCE : Batman ROVE : Oh the old nananananananananana Batman PRINCE : Thats right ROVE : I'll do that again in case you missed it nananananananana Batman PRINCE : It sounds even worse with this headphone up ROVE : And it looks even worse when I do it with my underpants on the outside PRINCE : (laughs) ROVE : Now, tell us, tell all the fans watching at home do you have any plans to bring the tour downunder come and visit us back here PRINCE : I look forward to coming back to Australia, we had a wonderful time there, we were there recently and the audience there, their wild and it brings out the side of me that is just gonna be alot of fun so I look forward to that ROVE : Excellent, well the album is musicology its out now, thankyou very much for taking the time to talk to us and looking forward to seeing you down under sometime soon PRINCE : I look forward to it ROVE : Please thank Prince everyone PRINCE : Peace [This message was edited Wed May 12 4:23:11 2004 by Natty] ~Break it down~

Prince interview "What the?"
Rove, as expected...was a complete humiliation for all of Australia! Please forgive us, and do not base your image of Aussies on that git. I emailed the Rove team informing them of the absence of reserach from the interview, and how Rove pretty much couldn't get over himself long enough to allow Prince to actually instill some respect into the interview. Standard q's, attempted 'humour' and poor skills marred what could have been a successful Australian involvement for the promotion of Musicology and the current tour....that (by the way Rove) kicked off here last October....."so when do you plan on touring Australia?"....what a loser.

Prince ain't looking too good in those pics. Haters travel in packs and they are offended or threatened by klhk, haters express intense hostility toward the subject of hate. Haters are annoyed and roll thier eyes when klhk is paid a compliment. ask yourself, are u a hater?

Maybe seeing the interview in person was different, but I don't think it was that bad by reading the transcript. Prince was joking and so was the reporter. In LA he was on POWER 106 radio station and was totally joking with the DJ, even saying at the end " Big Boy you know I love you, but have you heard of Mr. Click?" The DJ asked what he meant and Prince hung up the phone! Too cool!

The interview was horrible ya'll!! TRUST ME!!
I watched it in Perth which is the West Side of Australia! The fact is... ROVE played the fool... and did not show any respect to the Royalty of Prince! The whole freaking week the promo was Music Royalty Prince on the show.. and when it came down to it, I don't think ROVE knew who he was talking to! The fact is... the show is more a comedy/variety show than it is a music show!! But afterall, I think it is the ONLY and probably MOST watched variety show of it's kind in the country, If there was a REAL music show.. P would have done that instead. So in a sense P, took what he had to get his interview out there to us , in sunny Australia!! Rove hardly focused on the music!! ROVE talks too much in his interviews... he loves the limelight. I am glad.. P was really light hearted and took it in good stride.. the old P I'm sure would have walked off!! I'm glad P still displayed class on such an unclassy show!! He simply is too cool for skool!! All my mates called me after and said.. "damn P is cool man!!" ROVE is such a dimwit... I think the show reflected very badly on the interviewer rather than it did P.. even for non-Prince fans!! When Rove asked him "How many instruments he played"... I was hoping P was gonna answer with what he did a few years back in an interview I read which was " How many don't I!" hehe... O well... it was ALL GOOD.. having P on prime time TV here in Australia!! Can't wait for him to come back again.. and this time I hope he comes to WA... it cost me a bomb flying to the east last time!! OneLove Shaun
