Prince Beat Britney, Aerosmith, Shania...Even Yanni!!! I read an interesting stat in our local news rag this past weekend. I live in Columbia SC and well to say there is no much to do here would be like saying that Grafitti Bridge is only moderately confusing (or that UTCM is only moderately homoerotic). Anyway, a big deal was made about the fact that in March and April, all these BIG acts were coming to out local coliseum the Colonial Center. In one month, we were getting Aerosmith, Shania Twain, Briney Spears, Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffet, Yanni, and Prince. Since basically people usually skip over the Colonial center and go to Charlotte or Atlanta, it was pretty exciting and obviously I was psyched about the prince show (Prince had not been to Colatown since 1998 and befor that, 1984). Well the article showed the attendance for all of these acts and lo and behold. the purple man had the second largest show. The article listed the attendance at 16,500, 5,500 more than Britney and 4,000 more than Aerosmith. The article said that Buffett drew 17,000 but Buffett is like a religion in Columbia so that made sense. I just simply could not believe that prince had outdrawn all of these mainstream popular acts, even though I was able to gauge that a lot of people had come by the fact that I had to park about a half a mile away because our supposedly more than adequate parking lot filled up.
If prince can almost sell out Columbia, the man is back! And as for poor Yanni...4,000 went to that electrifying show. You can read all about it on Yanni.org All good things they say never last...

Could this be anything with him playing 'in the round'? That frees up more seats than a stage at one end of an arena. Right?

Capacity is 17,000...Yanni could have sold out 17,000 seats if 17,000 people had been so inclined. All good things they say never last...
