P's contribution is decent. Decent solo, decent vocals. Not much atmosphere, not my favorite cover of the song, but a decent job on a really cool CD.

The other acts on the CD sing and play extremely well. Right now, my favorite on that disc is EWF's cover of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return). Most of the songs groove extremely well, and Musiq's cover of Are You Experienced? is really well-sung. He's got a future, that guy...

I agree. EW&F's version is very well done. Everybody's version is cool except for P's. He could have done so much better. Everyone else seemed like it was important to them, like this matters. But P kinda just threw something together and included it just for the hell of it. That's how it struck me. Hendrix obviously made an impact on all the other artists involved, and they didn't have a problem showing it. Hendrix had an impact on Prince, but P has a hang up about it. He shouldn't have done "Purple Haze" I mean "Purple Rain" and not played guitar at all ever, and then he wouldn't have to trip off of being compared to Jimi and write lyrics like "Jimi Nothing" in "America".

nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

Not one of Prince's best works, but that is comparing this song to Prince's work.
He's had better guitar solos in his own songs.
I can't compare to Jimi's version, 'cause I haven't heard his version of Red House.
Keep in mind, that Prince's work is SUPERB, his guitar solo's killer...so saying that
this isn't one of HIS best work is NOT the same thing as saying this is a bad song.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Not a bad tribute album. Prince's cover is ok. But the Musiq track....and the Santanna/ Cory Glover covers.....WOW.
I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.
