Nope. And besides, is this really the very best of Prince? It doesn't have Extra Loveable, Electric Intercourse, 17 Days, Cookie Jar, Witness.....and so many others that are either unreleased or released in an overproduced fashion. That collection might be more aptly called the most commercial of Prince, because i've never found the songs on that compilation to be his best.

Get real. It was part of the cut-off deal he arranged with them.

He delivered Chaos & Disorder, and The Vault... Old Friends 4 Sale - with final tracklist and artwork, with no room for discussion, and the option by WB at a later date to release a compilation collection (The Very Best Of).

He did agree to it's release.

I'm not telling you to get it (why would I care) - I'm just saying your reasoning is based on false assumptions.

Course I've got it! (...just cuz I'm a completist).
It's not that bad though, it's just that the artwork sucks.
I mean, music-wise it's a 'greatest hits' album...
what do you expect?

I never play it though, I made my own 1CD best of a few years before
that's WAY better, so I play that instead. wink

nope, what's the point in buying songs that are cut off? U know how record company's cheat fans with greatest hits albums.

the only reason why i got hit & b-sides were for the unreleased songs.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Probably the ONLY official release I decided not to buy.
I already had the 3 cd set The Hits/B-sides, which was a much better compilation/artwork, etc...

The way I saw it, the Very Best of Prince, was a slack job when it came to the packaging and arrangement. After that decission, it became easier not to buy EVERYTHING the club put out either. Example: The chocolate envasion, etc. just because it was slightly different. This made it OK to not own everything put out with the name Prince on it.

Hey Boris,

what's on your 'best of' album? Just interested to know..

thanks,

Well, it's not too disimilar to the released one (after all it is 1 disc of 'Hits'), but I used a lot
of single edits and created a few edits of my own. The main difference is the packaging, which
is way better than the released one (almost anything would be!). I used the classic 'James
Bond' image of Prince holding the Gun-mic as the front cover (seemed to be appropriate for
an album called "The Hits").

1. 1999 (single edit) (3:36)
2. Little Red Corvette (single edit) (3:06)
3. When Doves Cry (single edit) (3:48)
4. Let's Go Crazy (album version) (4:39)
5. Purple Rain (my own edit) (6:15)
6. Raspberry Beret (3:31)
7. Kiss (single version) (3:46)
8. Sign O' The Times (single edit) (3:42)
9. U Got The Look (3:46)
10. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man (my own single edit) (3:59)
11. Alphabet St. (single edit) (2:25)
12. Batdance (batmix radio edit) (4:13)
13. Thieves In The Temple (my own edit: includes 'drum solo') (3:35)
14. Gett Off (my own longer edit, includes 'pool table' verse) (5:20)
15. Cream (4:12)
16. Diamonds And Pearls (single edit) (4:19)
17. Sexy MF (Sexy Mutha remix) (3:55)
18. 7 (my own remix / edit) (4:23)

If I was remaking it now I would probably change a few things, but on the whole I'm very
pleased with it.

Initially, I remember purposefully not buying it because everything I had read indicated that it was released against Prince's wishes to make money for Warner Brothers alone, so I resisted on the principle of supporting Prince.

Also, I think the 3 disc set is AMAZING and there's nothing on the single disc that I don't already have in my collection.

Ultimately, I have softened my "political" stance on not owning it and now simply find that the money is better spent on something else. I would not refuse it as a gift, but I've got no need to buy it...yet (hahaha!)

nod Dude will be the first one to complain about Prince's music or what it's lacking. He'll re-hash some Kevin Smith joke, riding it's coattails to the bitter end like he does here But let someone ask do you own _____ by Prince and he's showing off German, Japanese, and Pekingese versions of it.
