Does it bother you that Prince is a prick?

Prince might be a nice a guy. After all I don’t know him and I have no idea what the man

is really like. But I’ve been following his career for quite some time…I’ve seen and read

countless interviews, I’ve heard all about the problems he’s gotten into, and the people,

pretty much everybody, that he’s pissed off. Now I’m not trying to be ass myself – none

of us will ever know Prince and I got little respect for fans who think they do. But, BUT,

while if I was ever to meet the man I would try to drop my preconceptions, I can’t help

but think this dude is a serious asshole. Sure he’s amazingly talented but he also strikes

me as being an egomaniacal solipsist who is also intensely insecure. Now the music is

about the music, but does it bother ya’ll that the music is coming from someone who

seemingly fucks over people with no remorse, says shit like “if you don’t like that I curse

that say more about you than me,” and has a history of pissing off everybody and

anybody, even those who think they are closet to him including lots of us fans.

Truth is, don't bother me either. My Cuz said "P. supposed to be a real dick" and I

responded "yes but the music is real good"…my cuz thought that was a lame response,

the man has a point. In “What is Art” Tolstoy collapses the distinction between morality

and art. Good art, so says Tolstoy the moral fascist, is moral.

+++ to Bananadick, stay freaked out. Good way to be.

I think that Prince has personality flaws and self-esteem issues, but so do a lot of people.
There are things about Prince that I don't like, which is why I went almost 15 years without listening to his music. I have gotten over it once I realize that there is nothing that I can do about it and that it doesn't affect my life one bit.
Now I am all about the music. I have a lot of catching up to do, so off I go to download some more music... cool

it depends how you see him first...I saw his music first and then realized that P has personality issues. im the type of person who looks for the first impression, and that was his music...so overall thats all i try to see, and im happy that he is turning over a new leaf in his life. p is a VERY smart man, and has learned a tremendous amount, and all in all his personality kind of helped his career, alot of peope know him by that, and its recognition...so even though i hate some of the things he says, i have to get over it...

Somewhere in the early 90's, after reading articles in the usual places about my favorite artists, I decided I longer cared about who they were personally, I just wanted to listen to the music. Because in the end, the music was all I really cared about anyway.
Other than freeing up some time, I found it actually increased my enjoyment of the music
No longer did I have to sit and read some dopey political or social statements, or who the artist banged or where.
I don't want to live vicariuosly through them, I just want some tunes to rock or sing to.
Of course, it is somewhat different with Prince. I read Pop Life, I read Possessed...but even there, I was surprised at many things I read about Prince's personal life, because I was far more interested in keeping up with all the music.
If you currently do so, just stop reading any articles, other than those that deal directly with music or albums, about any and all artists for a month (exception for Prince granted)
See if you miss it. I don't think you will.

Does it matter if the guy behind the counter who sells me a newspaper is an ass hole? will it affect my reading of the articles? Prince offers a product, his music to be listened to, critiqued and debated. Not his personal life.

Ok...i think this is it...if it makes u mad that prince is a "prick" is because he is in the spotlight, and for someone who is interested in him that much, to know that he acts that way makes u turned of...and also for all of us on the org...alot of people spend so much time talking about him on here, and setting up scrapbooks...watching dvds of his, listening to his music, ext. and spending time supporting him, and then to know that if u ever met the man that he prolly wouldnt even give you the time of day....thats the only reason why it upsets me that he is a "prick"

I bet Prince could tell us all many stories of how people have been pricks to him too. I'm sure he has has to deal with many people who think just because they bought an album or two that they have the right to impose themselves on him. Prince owes us nothing, we owe him nothing. You either dug his music or you don't.

So this post makes me "retarded"? I think

this question is post-worthy if no other reason than it’s interesting to see what people

have to say. Personal attacks, especially childish ones like the one up above, are riddled

with irony. Anyway, oblivious people aside, is there no relation between Prince as he

exists away from the mic, the pen, and the guitar and who he is as a performer and

songwriter? None at all? If that’s the case, what does that say about the sincerity and

intimacy of the song writing and playing? Before you get all self-righteous why don’t

you take the time to actually read the first post and maybe, all though I know this is a lot

to ask, you can even read some of the other posts. Word.
