Q: NPGMC download singles Hi,
I was wondering, if Prince sells a single track i.e 'Magnificent' at NPGMC for 77c and all of his club members do indeed purchase it (i was told that there are around 400,000 club members, although i am clueless as to if this is realistic or not). That would be .77 x 400,000 = (takes socks off to calculate the sum with fingeres & toes) .... a total of $308,000! now i'm aware that there are taxes and costs to be taken from this amount. But isnt that a LOT of money to reap from the equivelant of just one single? My question is this Q) after the afore mentioned deductions are removed, how much would be left. Q) Considering the given example - How do Princes profits compare to another artist who is signed to a major label and who's latest single has also sold 400,000 copies in a more conventional method i.e cd single sold in stores I'm sure this post has many errors and overlooks some points. However, i write it to gain a greater understanding of Princes internet based selling methods. thanks You'll never know a girl called Nikki and you'll never find Erotic City

I have no idea what the actual figures are, but 400,000 sounds like pie in the sky figures.
Anyone have any other info on members figures?

I mean - I'd rather give P all 77 cents directly, since it is his product, than to a retailer, who bought it from a distributor etc, etc. That's the reason P went this route. He wants total control over the music and its distribution. I don't have a problem if he makes a half million of one single, - more power to him. Make me feel tiny if it makes you feel tall, but there's always someone cooler than you. - Ben Folds
Money don't buy you happiness, but it'll pay for the search. -Prince

I think howcome meant that it just goes to show how much money can be gained through this method of distrobution. I'd be keen to hear the answers to the questions posted. Anybody? Lange?
