I love it 2!!!!

The only versions ive heard are the "rehearsal" and the performance of it at the legendary gig at 5th Avenue.

Rehearsal 1 is my fav.

..."wake up Wendy!!"...
"...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

an incredibly beautiful and moving song, one that I had hoped would re-surface on an official release. I really like "I Wonder", as well. I think that was an outtake from Diamonds & Pearls. It's gorgeous.

The song was about Vanity.

Once their relationship had well and truly fizzled out owing to tantrums and recriminations about infidelity during the filming of the movie, Prince decided it was too much of an emotional burden to have such a personal song about a former lover (who was soon replaced by Patty Kotero AKA Apollonia) become part of the album. Prince therefore decided to shelve the song indefinitely.

By the way, during a rehearsal of "Electric Intercourse", Prince can be heard exclaiming "Vanity.."

there is circulating two versions of the song where he says wake up wendyy. In one the key of the songs is a half step lower than the other. But it´s artificially pitched. It is the same recording. Anyone know why?

It looks like you have an incomplete copy of the rehearsal I mentioned.

The session in question is from the summer of 1983, the one where Prince rehearses "The Bird" with members of The Revolution. The sesssion, which precedes the one in preparation for the August 3 performance at First Avenue, featured two versions of "Electric Intercourse" and on the first one (the falsetto version) Prince can be heard instructing the band how to play the chords, seemingly for the first time.

On the second one, Prince utters "Vanity" quite clearly, exactly 16 seconds into the track.

Sounds like you have the actual live performance of the track, from 3 August 83 at First Avenue.

The one most people are familiar with is the rehearsal version in preparation for that very show. Prince was so fond of that version that he took the recording of it into the studio for "sweetening", removing the "Wake up, Wendy!" interjection as well as other superfluous vocal mannerisms.

I hate to say it, but I think this song is WAY overrated. I love the title -- and I wanted to like it -- but it's just boring. shrug

That was T who did that... Prince cleaned up the version from the actual show (that was also the version that was going to be in Purple Rain)...

AGREED! Same with Moonbeam Levels for me too. I need to hear Eye Wonder again...but that one is overrated as well. Each to his own.

The reason I hear that this has never been included is that there is no studio version of this song. Just a demo.

Rude Dog. no no no! Some on here don’t know about these things. Be a little sensitive to those that are new around here.

I too at one time was not privy to this info, and I had followed him off and on for about 15 years. I knew of the Vault, but that was about it…until someone played for me a song from it. Once you open the vault, there is no going back.

Prince, as you may or may not know has a VAST library of recordings referred to as Bootlegs or Outtakes. He also has many Live recordings. These apparently lie in what is referred to as the Vault. Many fans have collected these throughout the years..live stuff and outtakes (which consist of other versions as well as unreleased gems)….and traded amongst ourselves or got these from other sources.

So that’s what is talked about sometimes here. You are allowed to discuss boots, just not ask where can I get or offer to get anything. Many web sites have been shut down due to Prince’s ego. Many here have no other free outlet in which to express themselves or keep up to date on P’s work. This is a valuable site and many here try and keep it available to all and not break rules as to get it shut down. There is also Housequake.com that discusses Boots a bit more freely.

So, how do we know all of this info? Hang around here and you’ll get some of it. Once you start listening to Boots you will start to ask yourself “where in the Heck did this come from?” and you’ll go seeking the answers. If you really want to know the skinny on most of this stuff…go to www.uptown.se . That’s Uptown mags website. It was a magazine dedicated to His work. They delved into the who, what, when, and why’s of his music. They have since decided to do a book (one of several they’ve compiled) called the vault, which will be updated annually. This is supposed to be the definitive book on the work behind the man. It’s supposed to go over all released and non-released/circulating and not of all of the songs…who did what and when. It also goes over interviews and just is a very indepth look at P and his music. It’s not a coffee table book you can pick up in the stores, but more of a text book.

Personally, I find all this stuff re: his work incredibly fascinating.

There's also a thread re: bootlegs...I have a few tips on which boots to start off with...etc

peace...

I have the two versions, including the First Avenue performance on video. I prefer the rehearsal version.

To those who don't like this song, how did you ever get into Prince? The Beautiful Ones might be the better song, but Electric Intercourse can be compared to it, which is saying a lot. It's littel wonder this song is consistently named as Prince's most legendary unreleased song.
