Ditto to JamieStarr, "When Doves Cry" is the best Prince song! Runner-ups are "Little Red Corvette" and "Adore" IMHO. Of course, the title track to TRC is absolutely amazing! "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise!" "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

That is an impossible question..but it happens all the time. I will tell people that Prince is my favorite , and they will always say: "oh yeah. Prince. I liked Purple Rain...He was good in that. I just don't like his new stuff...oh and by the way, He hasn't released anything in a while has he?"
I will say, "Yeah, he releases at least one album a year", to which they reply, "oh, really? what's your favorite song?" And I don't even feel like its worth it to tell them any of my favorites. Like they're gonna know it!

Well, Prince made lots of great songs, even in the 90s, but IMO ´When doves cry´ was pure genius. It was complete. It had originality, musicianship (one of the best P guitar ever), it was modern, hypnotic, perfect. One of the most earthshaking songs of last century, and it´s still modern today.
Another song I love so much is ´If I was your girlfriend´. Wow, what a simple song, but it had ´something´. Everytime I listen to it, I have the feeling that inspiration exists. No other person could have done it that way. |
