LIST A SIGNIFICANT OTHER'S FAVORITE PRINCE SONGS -- AND HOW HE/SHE CALLS THEM

My baby has had to live with Prince since he met me. He's not a huge Prince fan, but he is decidedly fond of some songs.. most of which he refuses to call by their title, preferring to refer to another artist/band the song reminds him of.

1. The Cross ("that Cowboy Junkie song")
2. A Place in Heaven ("A Letter to Daddy" -- from the song Bette Davis sings in Whatever happened to baby Jane?)
3. I'll take you there (from Small Club -- he calls this one "that Tina Turner song")
4. Purple Rain (which he thankfully calls Purple Rain)
5. All My Dreams ("that Love Boat song")
6. On the Couch (alternatively "that Aretha song" or "that Janis Joplin song")
7. Dinner with Delores (that "dancing like a white girl" song.)
8. Darling Nikki ("Nikki")
9. Diamonds and Pearls ("that Beethoven song" -- yeah, he finds it as brilliant as the Ninth Symphony)
10. Nothing Compares to U (the "Sinead O'Connor song" even though he's referring to Prince's version).

well, not really in my case, cuz none of my partners have ever really dug prince. i've been thinking bout your question for a little while, and couldn't come up with any specific songs. all i know is that whenever i've played him, the lady of the day just tends to say something generic like, "aaah, here we go again." or, "oh, that guy again." or, "huh, i guess it's prince day again..."

and i always say, "THAT'S RIGHT!"

Yeah.. I had never thought about it. After about the fourth time he heard the song, he just declared it was a lot like Letter to Daddy. He is so cute when he listens to this one -- he moves his fingers to the music, most often on my thigh. smile

Yes, it's true. The Org is filled with single people or married/attached people who are married to Prince fans or haters. My friend is not a Prince fan -- in fact he talks like a hater most of the time, calling Prince "Princess" and speaking of having a Prince Jar for every time I mention Prince (Damn Prince and his media blitz!). Still the thing is that he is really attached to some of Prince's music.

My other half likes the following songs;

Cinnamon Girl
Pearls B4 The Swine
Any of Prince's 80s singles
Extraordinary

I've tried to educate him further, but what can you do?

I've been somewhat successful. He's not much into funk, but he likes some of the ballads, mid-tempo rockers and "acoustic" songs. A couple of others...

1. She loves me 4 me -- I don't remember, but again it was another female singer.
2. Teacher Teacher -- alternatively The Mamas and the Papas or The Beatles.
3. Homy Tonk Women - "the Stones".
4. Something in the Water (piano)
5 - Witness 4 the Prosecution - he says this one is in his top ten.

Ah, I'm lucky, I actually made my girl a Prince fan. He's all she listens to now, she's just like me.

She loves pretty much all of his 80's stuff and a lot of songs from the 90's too. I know she loves TGE too.

Basically, any love ballads or songs without horrid raps or incredibly lame lyrics.

I can stand before all of you and say my boy calls every Prince song he hears either Raspberry Beret or Darling Nikki depending on the tempo. Whjat is so sad about that is we both DJ for weddings and such on the side. You would think he'd try a little harder to recognize more Prince songs. And what's worse, he can tell you how to took aparta clock radio, cyphered some electronical problem, and reassembled it when he was ten in explicit detail (each gizmo and gadget and doo hicky he had to manipulate that sort of detail).

My ex never liked Prince when we where together. As soon as we split he became a "Prince" fan. and I mean hardcore. I think he always was, he just didnt wanna admit it biggrin He listened to Prince with me because he had no choice. He usually call every song by its correct name, but there where some that he had nicknames for.....

"Cream" he called it "that come song"
"slow love" he called it "lets make love song"
"get off" he called it "that orgie song"
"Darling nikki" he called it "jack off song"

men..... biggrin
