Even if you get the exact same shit, which is going to cost you a few bucks, you still cannot get the same sound. You might be able to come close if you start copying his style, but no self respecting musician would do that. - About Prince´s gear.....the Guitar World from 1994 gave a full description of it. very detailed. So Prince didnt have a reason to be paranoid then...heheh

I hope attitudes towards him as a guitar player have changed. - I can understand why. As a fan, I have access to some great guitar playing by the man, specially on bootlegs. A non-fan, who usually thinks Prince is a singer who happens to play guitar, already finds it strange to see him on the cover of GP mag. Then he/she reads interviews and only see monossilabic phrases and silly things. What do you expect he/she will think?

Prince CAN be a nice guy and do nice comments when he WANTS to. Listen to the interview with Kiss Fm. He spoke about the importance of learning rythm guitar, of trying to find your own style.
It wasnt a jerky monossilabic thing. Coincidence or not, Prince seems to have improved a lot as a person in the late years. He seems to be more ´clean´, nicer and playing better than ever and more focused on pure music. I hope he always gets better.

prince is a great guitarist but i understand why people whove only heard his proper albums might not think so, i mean, he doesnt really play that much guitar at all on his own official releases.

Not choosing to divulge your rig is nothing new, so Prince shouldn't be chastised for it. Ty Tabor of King's X (another band appreciated by musicians moreso than Joe Public) is just as defensive, and noone gives him a hard time about it.

Nope. Too easy. I won't take that one.

If anyone heard the radio-phone he did a week back, he alluded to this interview, stating he'd never broken down his technical playing side down as much as he did in this inetrview. So it seems worth checking out.
Shit, even on the radio inetrview he was talking about playing, citing Ike Turner as an infleunce.

I've been a P fan since the early 80's, and the main reason is the way this man can play a guitar... Like none other. I've been to my fair share of concerts and have seen the best (SRV, Clapton, Jonny Lang, Robert Cray...), and still, P has to be one of my favorites! I just went to the Tom Petty site today and saw the finest version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (from the Hall of Fame induction). Anyone who doubts the man's axe skills really needs to check it out http://www.tompetty.com/index2.htm
In response to whomever it was that mentioned "The Undertaker", I just purchased a copy of the VHS on ebay. Although it has a weird little story line running through it, and the quality of this video is not the best, it has some of the damn funkiest blues I have ever heard. It would be a shame if this is never released in its purest digital form. I saw P last month in OKC... His guitar skills have done nothing but improve as he has aged. I hope he is with us for a long time to come.

Concerning "The Undertaker", just FYI, the reason why the quality of your video may not be too great is because the video was actually originally released in PAL format for the Eurepean market (yes, it was an official WB Europe release on video.... that and The Sacrifice of Victor video)and there are now many VHS copies floating around, but all VHS copies are translations from the original PAL format which means you're bound to loose "some" quality in the transfer. I said all that to say that original PAL format is actually professional quality sound... it's great. Also, there is a bootleg of "The Undertaker" cd floating around too which is almost exactly the same as the video... but if I recall, the video edits out a minute or so of some of Prince's guitar playing on The Ride, other than that, it is the same.
