The problem is, he never answers technical questions very much, and Guitar Player is known for being mostly into guitar technique more than religious drivel. lol All you others say Hell Yea!!

They did a cover story on Prince back in the "Gold Experience"/Symbol name" days.
It was a real cool article, with Prince talking about the "Undertaker" album that he and Levi and Michael B. recorded, but that, according to him, Warners wouldn't realease it. The mag seemed way into Prince then, since he was doing a lot of rock stuff, and playing a lot of guitar.

I hope this time Prince talks more about guitar. Other interviews in Guitar World and Bass Player were very embarassing

It was a nice article, but the reporter had to do all the work by himself. Prince only did a monossilabic talk and Levi and Sonny had to talk for him most of the time.

Even if you get the exact same shit, which is going to cost you a few bucks, you still cannot get the same sound. You might be able to come close if you start copying his style, but no self respecting musician would do that.

The main thing I remember about that '95 cover story in the Guitar magazine was the 'Letters' section a few issues later. Readers were really viscious towards Prince & the magazine for even doing a story about Prince! I mean nas-tay!
I hope attitudes towards him as a guitar player have changed.

No one gets a cleaner guitar sound then Prince. All you others say Hell Yea!!

fact of the matter is is that Prince will truely be appreciated only when he is dead and gone. I mean, he is getting much recognition now and is deserving of it cuz the dude lays it down like no other! I'm just glad that I know real talent when I see it and can take part of his rollercoaster ride. thas why I try and go to as many shows as I can. that way when he is gone I can brag on what ppl really missed out on, a great musician! not to mention his guitar work. man o man ppl have been missing out. I'm am happy for him though with all the publicity. klick

Is this mag available in the UK. Ye P does get a real clean tone outta his guitars nice ,mags can't really show you how to play the same but its still nice to have a blast.

It would be nice if Musicology actually had some guitars in it. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Now, now, you're just not listening. There's some crunch on there, and it sounds good played at high volumes...and actually there are literally guitars on almost every track. Just because there are no long, orgasmic solos doesn't cancel out the presence of the instrument.

prince was interviewed by guitar player back in...97 or 98 I believe. He got pretty technical, even I didn't know what he was saying The Org is the short yellow bus of the Prince Internet fan community.

They should interview Takumi instead. That would be an interesting read. I want technical details this time, and I want a centerfold of the Hohner. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Speaking of Guitars & Prince look out for the State College DVD.He lays down a mean guitar solo on the 12:01(potato chip song). Prince should plays more blues.I love this song.

I think a lot you all are missing the point. Just the fact that Guitar Player is interviewing Prince at all (and on more than one occassion) speaks volumes! It means that the Guitar World staff recongnizes Prince's playing skills despite his interviewing skills. People that wrote negative letters to the magazine in the past simply aren't in "the know".
The question is, "what do other artists think of Prince's playing abilities?" I mean, when Prince gets props from the likes of Santana and Eric Clapton, how much more validation does he need??? Who cares what the "wannabe" guitar players hating on Prince think??? "Like an Eskimo... chill... it's all good!" "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

Am I alone? Are people communicating clearly? I'm not sure exactly what you don't understand, but "The Undertaker" if you haven't heard it is a very stripped down album of guitar playing with Prince on lead guitar, Sonny T on bass, and Michael B on drums (aka the New Power Trio or something like that). Anyway, The Undertaker was never released on CD but it was rumored to have been considered for release through a magazine like Guitar Player magazine. As far as the "technical" stuff is concerened, over the years, Prince has been very secretive about his techniques and exactly how he creates his various sounds. I guess one could liken his approach to protecting his "sound" to a restaurant protecting it's recipes and secret ingredients. Whatever the case, you will be hard pressed to find any other guitar player that can create the same tones and colors as Prince on guitar. But, technical guitar players are often curious to know how he does it. Back during the "Rave era" I do recall though how Prince talked about what he did to create the guitar sound on the song "So Far, So Pleased". I'm not a techie, so I don't know what he was really talking about, but I do recall that he did explain how it was done. "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"
