You're better off with the Testament 4CD set, mate.

That said, Testament also lacks the unreleased Susan Rogers' mix of Databank, the original, longer mix of Superfunkycalifragisexy, and plenty other tracks I could mention.

The Work falls a little short of being a comprehensive compilation of circulating unreleased songs but, overall, it's a nice overview for beginners.

WHat makes Testament better than the WOrk. I have some of the latter...but am new to the former.

The WOrk...for beginners? I dunno, I think it's pretty comprehensive in what it covers. Not definitive...but there is a lot there. I suppose if you are a major collector..then it could be considered a beginning.

For starters, Testament contains nearly 50 hours of mostly unreleased material spread across those 4 discs.

That fact alone should give you enough incentive to get a copy of Testament over The Work, which is at best patchy.

A "major collector" would be better off with the Revelations DVD.

The contents of the latter, comprising not just more unreleased tracks but also rare jpg files, video material and interviews, would make even Testament pale in comparison.

Testament will give you more for your money.

The Work will just look good on your mantlepiece.

MP3's ...so that's why there is so much on there! But then there must be a source. Why has this not come out ala the Work? Also if one does not actually get to have testament (but a mere copy), then no liner notes.

Anyhoo, I saw the listing and yes...it's truly outstanding.

Ok one more ??? How is the quality compared to the work...which in spots has done a good job and in others it's the same old thing or 3 more secs of the same old thing. Still waiting for a clear all day all night.

Testament is just too much hard work.

The Work Volume 1 Disc 2 is where it's at!

Yes. I want to hear all of this stuff and crave more..but there simply is ALOT out there. Don't even start with live stuff. That's just mind boggleing. I got the vol 1&2 and and still going over it. Like now listening to Computer Blue. I thought I knew what it was and skipped it. Quite different even from the other extended version I have somewhere else.

It does take a lot of work if you want to start collecting the outtakes. It's more than just enjoying the songs at that point. It's more like studying. Especially if you have other versions laying around and you want to know differences...if the quality is better (which could be the difference of a slight muffle) or if there is a different lyric or where the 15 extra sec lies in the song...or just what do the 3 extra seconds mean on the end or beginning of a song...i.e. All my dreams piano beginning (is that the most known outtake to keep coming back slighly ever more untuncated each time?) or perhaps the original segue to song xxx was this.

my thoughts exactly.

The Work set is where it's at. If you have that, you don't really need to mess w/ anything else, IMHO. Yes it's not 100% comprehensive, but most of what's not on there isn't really all that big a deal, IMHO.
