I know you'll think I'm crazy but this song sounds like Prince singing to Mayte. I mean really listen to this song. This song is meant for Mayte. It's almost like he's talking in the second person of when he was . Like the gold chain part is just like Man O' War...Am I crazy??

You're not crazy; I can hear where you're coming from, but I seriously doubt it.

Most of the romantic references would be towards Mani, I reckon.

i get the same feeling, especially from 'million days'. i think about half of the songs on musicology are older, from the 1996-2000 era

It does not need to be older to be about mayte. But idoubt half of the songs are from that period. Especially because of the lyrics.

I posted this a few weeks ago.. I totally agree. Esp. when he talks about 'the perfume I gave you' ... and waiting outside the liquor store.. tommy has a tattoo of mayte's lips on his NECK.. "please don't tell me that you all got down". :-p

Personally I think it's about my Aunt Maureen. She used to go out with Prince. About a year ago she was at Majestic Liquor Store wearing a cheap gold chain. As soon as I heard that lyric, I knew it was about her.

I absolutely think If Eye Was the Man in Ur Life is about Mayte. That was my very first impression. I think the other songs are about Mani, though.

The lyrics in If I ... definitely point to Mayte and Tommy ... about the guy doing the woman wrong and how she should do unto others as they do unto you (which likely refers to her cheatin on him and then getting cheated on by tommy)

why's every other love song, as of recently, gotta be either linked to or about mayte?

"Please don't tell me that you all got down," is exactly how I'd feel if I found out any woman I knew was schtupping Tommy Lee. In fact, just typing his name makes me worry my monitor will get veneral warts.

My only thought on this is she was a huge part in his life. Just like Susannah was a huge part of his life in the 80's. Most of his songs back then were about her. Prince has always written about his relationships. Even if he's married now that dosen't mean he can't write about her.

I think he is definitely talking about Mayte in A MILLION MILES and If I Was The Man In Your Life could be about Mayte or it could be Fictional. Not Really Sure.

Mayte was a part of his life. She had his child. she was his wife. They went through alot together. I think he still thinks about her, and some of the songs mentioned may very well be about her. Its natural. He really did love her. We will never really know what happen to cause their break up. these songs may just be his way for releasing built up emotions. There is nothing wrong with it. He seems happy with MANI, and happpiness with another means getting over the previous relationship. He may have written these songs while he was in the process of "getting over" Mayte. Just a thought.....
