Purple Rain There's not one bad, or average, or anything less than brilliant song on Purple Rain, whereas Thriller has the so-so title track, The Girl Is Mine, Baby Be Mine and PYT. I love Thriller, it's really fun pop music, but Purple Rain definetely has the better musicianmanship, songwriting and more killer tracks. DAYUM that jamming on Computer Blue is HOTT! Plus MJ would never have the guts to do a Darling Nikki.

The lyrics on Purple rain are more personal (The Beautiful Ones, I would die for U) than the songs on Thriller. But the songs on Thiller are really catchy P. Y. T. is one catchy song. And the songs where Michael is singing to a chick(The Girl is mine, Lady in my life) I mean can we really believe him. Although, he did tear Lady in my life up. He got down on that one. Hummm, I'm biased. Gonna have to go with Purple Rain just because. Thank You San Alejo for getting rid of my enemies. :-0

I was a Michael Jackson fan for a very short time -- the small period of time when I owned Thriller but hadn't gotten 1999 yet. After I had 1999 in my ears, I never looked back. There IS NO COMPARISON -- NONE!!!! The question does not compute. How can you say the looped four note bass-line of "Thriller" kills the guitar work on "Computer Blue"?

Thriller sounds stale today.
Purple Rain still sounds crisp and clean with no caffeine

I'm more for PR but I love Thriller. It was the first album I ever loved but when I heard PR as a whole for the first time, it hit me in a way no album has done before or since and that was 16 years ago. But Paris said it best, both of those albums are not their best. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

PLEASE !!! Prince's vocals on Purple Rain put MJ to shame . But even if Prince never uttered a note, the musicianship alone on Purple Rain blows Thriller out of the water. The Musicianship on Thriller is cold and souless (sort of like that school in Michigan that you're always talking about) Actually, you can take any one musical segment from Purple Rain (the guitar intro to When Doves Cry or the scorching ending to Lets Go Crazy come to mind) and it makes the musicains who played on Thriller (who were those guys anyway??? ) just seems silly. The album Purple Rain launched a new genre of music (the minnepolis funk/rock sound) that was immated for years to come and influenced countless artists (heck, even MJ's sister Janet ripped the sound off for her Control Album. Thriller was nothing more than an overhyped album designed for the discos recorded by studio musicians who didn't realize that you CAN'T FAKE THE FUNK [This message was edited Wed May 5 23:13:33 2004 by chrisslope9]

Prince is a musician, a composer, a songwriter and a great performer. MJ is a songwriter (lyrically speaking) and a great performer also. Prince gives so much more than Michael, on all his CD's he's recreating himself (without bleaching his skin, mine you). To me there's no comparison. I've always thought that Prince was way more talented than Michael and he didn't have to depend on his brothers to get him started. Prince did it all alone and significantly made a huge mark in the music industry alone. So, anything by Prince is better than MJ to me. Besides, I've only bought Thriller twice I think. I bought all of Prince CD's (twice even), well maybe not all, but I definitely did from the "For You" CD to the "Come" CD. After that I kind of lost contact, but I eventually caught up and became more familiar with the newer songs. Prince's music means way too much to me and holds significant value in marking times in my life. MJ's music is just for pop, not anything substantial. Peace. PS Good Question. Baby, Baby, Baby...what's it going 2 b?

I will admit that Bille Jean is an incredible song.
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Thriller and Beat it are cool. But Baby Be Mine, Girl Is Mine, Human Nature, P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) & Lady in My Life aren't what I would call amazing songs. As a complete album I feel the diversity and musical range of Purple Rain is far superior. Purple rain sounds fresh listening 2 it now. Sorry but Thriller doesn't. I just can't believe all the things people say !

Thriller is a great Album, but it only has a couple exceptional songs like Thriller, Beat It. Billie Jean and Pretty Young Thing. Regardless of my affection for PR, everything on it is quality. Besides, I wouldn't compare them by order, compare them by song.
Billie Jean is my hands down all time favorite MJ song, but it doesn't compare to When Doves Cry!!! When Doves Cry is a musical gem, I mean it brought the concept of no bass line to the world. It was a revolutionary song back then, now and always will be! I'm back!!!!!!!

PR is better. Thriller's not up to the standard of some other MJ stuff. Billie Jean, Beat It and PYC, Human Nature and Wanna be startin... are all great tracks, even brilliant. The rest are a bit sub-standard.
Ain't a bad track on PR. Take me with U is maybe the weakest, but even that's ace.

That'd be funny if it was true. Thriller's 50m+ sales later tells a different story.
