Prince funeral music?

Has anyone else ever used/ witnessed a Prince song during a funeral? When my mother died last year we used Love tht will be done (P version) and Comeback(The Truth). She loved P and chose this herself. I am just wondering if anyone else ever did this and with which song?

I think u have to be really careful when choosing any song for a funeral. For example let's say Purple Rain or Sometimes it Snows in April, those type of songs are too emotional. Funerals are a tough experience to go through, so u don't want to make it any more difficult than it needs to be. U don't want the church howling in pain and sadness. Love Thy Will Be Done is a good choice, it's not as intense as Purple Rain, it's also a little more upbeat.
I'm thinking what I'd play at my own funeral, it's tough.
Houseqauke perhaps....mmm maybe not. I'll need more time to think about that one.

I think that The Love We Make would be a good choice as well as sometimes it snows in April. I think lyrics are important for a funeral.

I'd play "wherever u go whatever u do" "the ladder" My family knows that I want these songs played.
"Everybody's looking 4 the ladder, everybody wants salvation of the soul. The steps u take r no easy road. But the reward is great 4 those who want 2 go.."

My family and my friends know I'd want "Sometimes it snows in April". Not because I desperately want a Prince song at my funeral (like some of you), but because it's the most beautiful sad song ever written.

Ive got 2 planned, Alexa de Paris, not a song but i love it none then less, & although it aint prince Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd,.....

"There is no Pain you are receeding, like distant
ships look on the horizon, you are only coming
through in waves, your lips move but i cant hear
what you say.....
When i was a child i had a fever, my hands felt just
like two balloons, now ive got that feeling once
again..... I cant not expain, you would not
understand this is not how i am.....
.....I have become comfortably numb"

"There is no pain you are receeding, like distant
ships look on the horizon, you are only coming
through in waves, your lips move but i cant hear
what you say.....
When i was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look but
it was gone..... I cannot put my finger on it now
...The child has grown, The Dream has gone.....
.....I have become comfortably numb"

I'm so glad somebody else started this topic. I've always wanted Purple Rain played at my funeral. And thought it would be totally morbid to admit it in writing -- until I saw your posts...

I want FACE DOWN played at my funeral.

If nothing else just to get a funny look on everybody's face. I don't want anyone to be sad at my funeral. I want em all to laugh their asses off. Why should the last time people see me be an event where people are crying?? Hell no. I may put a clause in my will to hire George Carlin or Gallagher to play at my funeral. How can you be sad when you're being pelted with watermelon bits?

Hi, I just heard 'Paisley Park', and I think it would be a nice song for a funeral-song, if you were a prince fan and died, like going to heaven then go to a park, paisley park..wouldn't that be nice?!

It is hard leaving people on a funeral with an memory so sad. I once heard one of my own songs back at a funeral and that is the strangest thing that ever happened to me.
On the other hand; also one of the most beautiful things that ever happened to me.
But you never forget that moment.
I'ld go for "My Old Man" of Joni Mitchell.
Cuz of the memories

I still can't tell y'all why,

but haven't you ever got that feeling, that someone you lost just walked by you ? I could even smell that person.

that song just catches that feeling ...
it's not a sad song, not at all but it always makes me cry,
and to use it in a funaral ...
well it's short enough so you won't have everybody wheaping, perhaps a lot won't even understand ...

but def they can play comeback at my funaral, and it should be played live ...

It's funny I saw this post because I just made pre-paid funeral arrangements for myself in January. At my funeral I'm having

Full of Grace-Sarah McLachlan

At my funeral I would like them to play "Good Love" and piss my family off with one last burst of Prince funk!

I would play "Adore." I know that sounds a bit strange, but I would want my family, friends, and those I love 2 know that I would always love them and be with them.

"Sometimes It Snows In April"

I've always considered that one the song I'd like 2 have played at my own funeral. If only cuz 4 ONCE I can force people 2 actually listen 2 a Prince song without having them reach 4 the radio 2 turn it off
