2 versions of Old Friends for Sale Anybody else think the newer version of Old Friends for Sale that was on The Vault was inferior to the original? The original had such a cool feel with great lyrics. It's like he forgot what good lyrics were and decided to hijack that track. I don't like the horn parts on the new one either. Wonder why he screwed with it.

the first one is definately the better version....
I heard he changed the lyrics because they were too personal....

Can be a dissappointment when you think a great track gets a proper release and it turns out to be 'slightly' inferior...Had the same with Joy in Repetition and We can funk...

I heard some lyrics in the older one were supposedly about Morris.
As far as We Can Funk and Joy In Rep. I can't say for the original Joy because I never heard it but the original WE CAN FUNK is much better. It looks like the one on Graffiti Bridge has some of the life sucked out for some reason. Does anyone know the original time period he recorded the first one in? "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

I love both versions of "Old Friends 4 Sale". The original has great lyrics and is very atmospheric, however I love the horns on the latter version.
I just wish I had an official copy of the original. Does anybody think it'll ever see the light of day?

The first one is definitely the better version. I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

aren't there 3, actually?
the original, stripped down one with the original lyrics. a second one from 85/86 with the same lyrics, but with the horns, etc. and then the third one from 91 with the horns, but different lyrics? perhaps i'm misremembering, but i think there are 3. Yes there are 3 (maybe more but I don't know them).... Still like the first one without the horns the most....

the original WE CAN FUNK is much better. It looks like the one on Graffiti We Can Funk on Graffiti Bridge actually uses the basic tracks recorded in 1983 (and so Wendy & Lisa can still be heard in the background). The 1986 version was recorded live with the full Revolution and I love it just as much as the 1990 version. Stop the Prince Apologists ™
