cool, presuming the whole "million days gonig for radio" isnt a hoax, then maybe hes going for pop with that, and r&b with call my name? not a bad idea really i think

I'm gonna disagree and say that it is a bad idea. I can see Call My Name as a R&B, but A Million Days is one of the three weakest songs on the album.
Actually, I think the best move right now would be Dear Mr. Man. By july the elections campaign will be really heating up and people will be talking about many of the issues in the world today. In fact, they already are. Dear Mr. Man is one of the stronger songs on the album, plays to both R&B and Pop, and is perfect for the current political climate. Follow that up in the fall with Reflection (perhaps a stripped down version akin the the Tavis Smiley performance) and the whole album will have been a huge home run. Of course, then the follow up album should be a bit stronger all around, more ballsy... Prince would solidify himself as a major player for the next decade. Starrfighter

Disagree... 1) I think "A Million Days" is a very strong pop song...wish it were produced better, but still very solid and has an extremely memorable melody. Plus, Prince's vocals on that song are straight forward, deep and strong...too many songs on the radio now feature wavering, weak, nasely vocals... 2) Political songs rarely do well on the charts, if only because you take the chance of alienating half of the listening audience if they can't relate or don't agree with your view...that, plus it's hard as hell to write decent political lyrics, and as much as I like "Dear Mr. Man", the lyrics are not anything to brag about or get you thinking, really... 3) Prince's "comeback" has at its foundation his two performances at the Grammys and the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony...and both were highlighted and underscored by some blistering guitar work. I think many of those out there who said to themselves "Damn, Prince is still great, isn't he.." did so because of his guitar-infected performances...so the most logical thing to do would be to release a song which features some trademark Prince guitar in it..."A Million Days" at least gives that out and subconsciously reminds radio listeners of those two earlier performances and how much they liked seeing them...

the problem is that its your opinion its weak. by which i mean, the point is its a good idea ot release a pop song and an r&b song. comprende? (plus you say the album should be more ballsy but then say reflection would help set him up for the next decade! ) personally i think million days and call my name are good enough. perhaps id have prefered cinnamon girl but whatever. as for what he does after that...perhaps cinnamon girl but he'd have already done the "pop" song. so i wouldnt be surprised if it was ICP&C or life o the party or something. heck maybe even reflection!

Alright I see what you are saying. Dear Mr. Man is risky.
Instead what about a slighty-remixed If Eye Was The Man In Your Life. While that song isn't necessarily an all out rock song, it's roots are rock (and funk/jazz towards the end). But if it was altered just slightly it owuld play to many audiences. I said Reflection for the third because it is a great GREAT song. It would be considered very innovative. The third single is almost always a ballad from most artists these days (to show the softer side) in contrast to the number two single which is usually the hardest of the three. Not only would Prince be putting out a great ballad, but the stream of conciousness would get the good reviews from critics and pseudo-fans. I DO think that a stripped down reflection would play better on the radio though. And yes, A Million Days is a decent song but the production is lacking on various levels. I feel like that for a quite a few songs on this particular CD. Starrfighter

ICPC with glossier production would've been a top ten hit, easily. Just look at Roses.
As it is, not sure ppl would be willing to look past its rough, stripped down sound. I still say it would've been the best choice for next single though, cause it's catchy and funny. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It is also too bad that i am really starting to think that Prince could have used a producer on this record (dare I say it!!) I really love the album, but there's just something a little lacking for the universal mass appeal. It really doesn't need to be dumbed down to have more appeal... just a little different. And only just a little. Starrfighter

I couldn't agree more. Though I'd add that the 5 channel simulcast thing...though post the other performances is a factor as well...it's certainly pushed things a bit further...though it is on the wave he's riding. But I think that that was a versignificant thing. ANd the cover of RS Hate the mag, but to be on it speaks volumes. I really don't think the singles are necessarily pushing anything at the moment...but keeping him in the limelight as they should. He is releasing them rather quickly..and I really think that a single/remix would really do him well in sales especially if there was a good remix or a b-side that he is famous for doing. I think that's at least a better solution that putting out a single with another song from the CD. People are paying attention and are really receptive right now. He could get away with it. I think word of mouth and CD reviews are selling the album...as it's gotten good reception and people are willing to purchase a Prince disk as it's been a while, the music is decent, he's very classy and it's sort of the "it" thing to have (Emancipation was sort of the same way) . It's "cool" to like Prince but not so to really follow him and buy everything he comes out with. I would be very interested to see what he's going to come up with next...esp if it's a pop disc or with the next pop disk like this one (though we may get a jazz thingy first). Would it sell...yes but not as much. If it perhaps had the revolution AND it sounded decent AND actually was a bit more innovative than this one (it'll have to be...or the critics will rip him apart) it would do well I think. Honestly, if he could pull that off, there would be no stopping him. I actually think it would be bigger than now. I think that reunion would be VERY WELCOME. Christian Zombie Vampires

I love "Call My Name"...however, I can't get over the cuts "Marrying Man" and "If I Wuz The Man In Ur Life". Those songs are pretty good, especially the latter. I kept playing it over and over. That should definitely be a single. GeSmi1 Baby, Baby, Baby...what's it going 2 b?
