Very fine sales 4 2nd week! I hope P is now interested once again to come out with an album that gets people interested in his music. I hope it doesn't get an other 13 years... smile

so, roughly 80,000 discs were handed out at shows this week? you know what, that was such a smart marketing move! the longer he stays in the top 5...or even top 10...the more press he gets for his comeback. the more press he gets for the comeback, the more records he actually sells. i guess those that said giving the cd out at shows was a bad idea are getting schooled, lol!

Damn! I'm impressed. This must be including giveaways, right? This album is going to go platinu. Pretty impressive, considering MTV and VH1 seemed to have forgotten about the "Musicology" video already.

So now he needs to release another single and video QUICKLY!!!!! "A Million Days" is the best choice for pop radio; "Call My Name" is the best choice for R&B charts...

Yep, that looks to include in the neighborhood of 75,000 concert sales. (which included 5 shows in this reporting period 4/22-4/28). Next week he will get the benefit of 5 more shows (4/29-5/5 Birmingham, Atlanta, Biloxi< Kansas City and St Louis) so look for Musicology to stay in the Top 5 next week.

A brillant marketing move if you ask me .

The album will take a big dip though in weeks 4 and 5 as he takes over 2 weeks off on the Musicology tour in mid May

you're right...that'll be interesting. It'll definitely take a massive hit, giving casual chart watchers the impression that the buzz is over, and then it ought to climb back up...either way, it's news, i guess. I'm really wondering what kind of deal was worked out with Sony for the tour. This is definitely a revolutionary strategy, but beyond Prince's specific deal, with it set a precedent where labels get a bigger cut of an artist's tour grosses? Of course, I don't know how any of this normally works.

A brilliant move, for sure. There were several people here constantly saying what a huge mistake it was. It's funny how hardly any of us thought about the cycle of press and sales that this strategy would generate. He's gonna continue racking up some nice numbers for the duration of the tour.
