I have two favorite albums (I keep changing my mind about which one I love more): PARADE (1986) ...I was 13 when this came out. SIGN O THE TIMES (1987) ...I was 14 when this came out. Keith/Kacey OMG SAME for me, but I was 12 & 13. SOTT was my first prince album (on cassette), since all the earlier ones I stole from my brother.

I'll never forget my introduction to Prince. I was 16 and a friend of mine got me hooked on the Controversy and Dirty Mind tapes (remember those ). Then 1999 got released followed by the movie Purple Rain, I haven't been the same since. I turned 37 this year and am thrilled with Musicology and Prince's re-introduction to main stream music. It's great to see him in magazines and on TV shows (the MTV concert was sweeeeet). I caught the show in Tampa last week and created a new fan, my girlfriend. We will now be seeing the Atlanta show, and at the end of June we'll fly to Chicago to catch him one more time. It's great that she's hooked as much as me.
Sorry if I digressed, I got a bit carried away.

LOL I was 9 when Lovesexy was released. I would sit in the window and read along to the lyrics. My dad would say, "Should she be reading that?" My mom would say, "Leave her alone at least she's reading"
BTW I'm a newbie here. Thank You San Alejo for getting rid of my enemies. :-0

SOTT and The Gold Experience
I was 8 when Sign came out and 16 when Gold came out. However, I think it's important to note for the sake of this poll, that I didn't hear Sign until I was 14 or 15, and Gold when I was 16.

Thanks for all of the responses! I want to collect a few more before tallying up the data and drawing any conclusions (which we can do together).
Just to wet your appetite, though, I'll give you the current status. The #1 favorite album so far is SIGN O THE TIMES, with 18 people listing it in their top three, having been an average age of 13 when it came out. The #2 choice so far is Parade with 11 votes and an average age of 9 years old (set back by some negative numbers...please try to list how old you were when you got into the album if you've indicated that you weren't born yet when it was released...though we are interested in the fact that you weren't born yet and we love you!) The #3 choice, Lovesexy, is just one vote behind #2 and has an average age of 15.5, though HALF of the voters were exactly 17 when it came out...so far this is one of the most interesting things I've noticed. Other observations based on what we have so far... and bear in mind that these can change when more of you post. 1. "The Rainbow Children" tends to be a fave for a bit older of an audience. 2. "Musicology" is appealing to a rather wide range of ages! 3. The ages of 12-16 are the most popular responses for the "1999"-"SOTT" era, then jumping to 17-18 for "Lovesexy." 4. Most of those who have posted who got into early Prince work later in their lives were in the neighborhood of 20 years old when they discovered his early stuff. I'm sure we'll have more observations soon...thanks and keep it going! Keith/Kacey

Kacey725 said:[quote]A recent post by Skywalker made what I think was a very good observation...the fact that we tend to be starry-eyed and impressed by what Prince did either when we were younger and less mature in our tastes or when we first became Prince fanatics.
After thinking about this post (and responding to it), the thought occurred to me to see if there's any weight to this theory. Hence, and informal poll... LIST YOUR FAVORITE PRINCE ALBUM (no more than your top 3, please) AND HOW OLD YOU WERE WHEN THIS ALBUM WAS RELEASED. * Note: If your age when you discovered the album was significantly different from your age when it was released...such as if you got into "For You" last year and you weren't even born when it came out, please indicate this as well. Once a number of us have posted, we'll see what kinds of conclusions we can draw. When I think about key transitions in my life these CD's stand out in my mind 1) 1999 -16: Although I knew about prince I was not yet hooked Until I heard the single 1999! 2) Around the world/Parade 20:I had just dropped out of college and began working at a warehouse and couldn't wait till lunch to listen to ATWIAD and Parade marked the closing of our local movie theater and Under the Cherry moon was the last movie to play there.Still my favorite work by him. 3) One nite Alone 36:ONA was my pillow afterwork everyday for a while! I would just slide it in the CD player on my way home! It proved to me that Prince is a genius in the simplest way. We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.
