A recent post by Skywalker made what I think was a very good observation...the fact that we tend to be starry-eyed and impressed by what Prince did either when we were younger and less mature in our tastes or when we first became Prince fanatics.

After thinking about this post (and responding to it), the thought occurred to me to see if there's any weight to this theory.

Hence, and informal poll...

LIST YOUR FAVORITE PRINCE ALBUM (no more than your top 3, please) AND HOW OLD YOU WERE WHEN THIS ALBUM WAS RELEASED.

* Note: If your age when you discovered the album was significantly different from your age when it was released...such as if you got into "For You" last year and you weren't even born when it came out, please indicate this as well.

Once a number of us have posted, we'll see what kinds of conclusions we can draw.

I have two favorite albums (I keep changing my mind about which one I love more):

PARADE (1986) ...I was 13 when this came out.
SIGN O THE TIMES (1987) ...I was 14 when this came out.

When I bought my first P tape (SOTT) 1987 - I was 16

When I first realized I Liked his music - 1988 Lovesexy - 17 just out of HS

When I became the fan I am now 1995/1996 no particular album associated. Someone sat me down and HAD to play stuff for me. I will never be the same. I was 26.

It's interesting...

Those of you who favor "Lovesexy" were 17-20 when it came out (so far, based on who has submitted). That puts you in the 32-36 year old age bracket today.

There's something so right about getting into "Lovesexy" at 17. Hmm...

Dirty Mind - 10. Far too young for that! I was into Adam & The Ants back then!

Loved 1999, Purple Rain and Parade - but Lovesexy was the real turning point, when I started buying up all the albums and thinking that I really needed to see this guy in concert.

Oh, and I was 17 or 18 I guess.

I was 17 years old when Sign o' the Times was released.

Needless to say, it had an impact on my life that I will never forget. Songs from that album bring back some of the best and, unfortunately, worst memories from my senior year in high school.

The album that turned me on to Prince was "1999", I was 11/12 years old when I heard 'LRC' and 'Delerious'. After that I was hooked. It's funny I told my mom that I was going to see Prince Live on the current 'Musicology' tour, and she said 'wow, you've been wanting to see him a long time'. In fact, I've seen him twice now and bought another ticket for a third show... making up for all the years I was a poor airman stationed overseas and couldn't afford to see him.
