Chaos & Disorder

I don't understand why C&D has been so dismissed and forgotten. Don't get why it made no impression upon release. I thought it was the most accessible and exciting album he'd done in a while. It doesn't have the preaching of TRC or any of the usual self-indulgent stuff found on a lot of his albums post Lovesexy. Am I the only fan of this album?
PS I also liked the cover art.

I liked this album a lot also. I play it (relatively) often compared to some of his other 90s material. It was named one of the 10 best albums you never heard by SPIN magazine that year.

I HAAAAATED it at first, and by now, it's really grown on me. Definitely bogs down a bit with that "Into the Light" nonsense, which sounds like it belongs in some awful '70s Jesus musical, but there are some really great tracks on it. "Same December" and "Right the Wrong" are both just nutty, and I've grown to like them.

This album is garbage. It deserves no attention or respect. It never grew on me, despite my attempts. The disclaimer on the inside of the CD case should have warned us that even Prince had little regard for the album. The lowlights for me are the ultra-cliched "Right the Wrong" and "I Rock Therefore I Am." I defy anyone to justify "I Rock .." Man, that reggae guy was just SO CORNY! It was just as bad as anything Tony M "contributed" to the NPG. "Had U" was interesting, but not really a song.

The only decent tracks on this album are "Dinner With Delores" and "Zannalee," although they have plenty of flaws (that "brontosaurus" line - good lawd!) eek

The one good thing this album did for me was to push me to break down and buy bootlegs (against Prince's will) because the new stuff he was putting out was trash. mad

all in all I loved 'Chaos & Disorder' , there are 2 joints I can't stand, but there is always one or two on every album. Pronce on guitar on most of da cd.....ya can't miss. One of P's most under-appreciated albums. C&D haters:mgun:

C&D had the potential to be an awesome rock/guitar album from Prince. Had he not fallen out with Warners quite so bad AND had he considered that his hardcore fans would still buy it and therefore deserved a little more effort rather than a throwaway album (which you get the feeling from Prince's attitude).

Changes I wish were made:

1) Remove that AWFUL rap from I Rock...

2) Add "Empty Room 95", "The Undertaker" and "The Ride" (studio version)

You then IMHO have a pretty decent album!
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I've always liked the feel of this album.
Tracks like 'Chaos' 'I Like It There' and 'Zannalee' are awesome.
Dinner, Had U, I will and in2 the light are also excellent.
Sure some of the other tracks are average but overall it was cool. lol
I just can't believe all the things people say !

I also enjoyed Chaos & Disorder very much, mainly because I like that Rock sound from Prince the best, and he wasn't doing much of it during that time. I would say that I listen to C&D as often as any other Prince albums, except for my very favorites.

I think C&D had the potential to be a classic Prince rock album. But it was really contaminated with the silly "I Rock Therefore I Am" and "Dig U Better Dead". Good album! But it could have been great.

It's just not that good. It's just raw sounding rock with little effort put into it. It's a throw away and sounds like it.

Do have to say though, Dinner is a fantastic song.

for some reason after hearing Musicology, I can now go back to Chaos and Disorder and enjoy it after years of hating it. I am not being sarcastic or in any way dissing Musicology (because I like this one too) but it is like it has unlocked in me what was necessary to go back to C&D.
