Not my thing, but it is pleasant enough! Whole album in general has it's failures, but the energy and enthusiasm on the whole album really shows and elevates tracks like this! i think it's alright!

I loved Courtin Time! To me it showed Prince trying to bring back the sounds of songs like Delirious and Horney Toad. It had the same frantic pacing that makes you want to move that ass.....good song.

It's tacky and fun - what's not to like.

It's one of my favorite off of Emancipation, don't know why people have the bar so impossibly high for Prince, emancipation had lots of very strong, polished tracks and a variety of styles. You know what it is, when you have someone as excellent as Prince people get spoiled and unpleasable. Look at Roy Jones Jr., baddest fighter ever, people still bitch and moan about what he does and doesn't do, same for Ali in his prime, people always talk shit. As we see, anyone else comes up with stuff that would be routine for Prince and "OOOOOHHHH!" Like with outkast or whoever.

I think people don't like it because, let's face it, the song doesn't go anywhere. It sounds as if there must be an extended version somewhere that builds to something exciting. Not all songs have to be epics...but this is one of those that promises to be one, then doesn't deliver. "Slave" does the same thing in my opinion, but it is saved by going into "New World" and then into "The Human Body."
I think "Courtin' Time" needs to be among a different group of songs to be fully appreciated. Disc 1 is a mish-mosh of inconsistant material...I really dig Disc 2 and love Disc 3, though.

These things would have raised the quality of that song:
1) A good drummer holdin' it down instead of that weak drum track. 2) A solo from Eric Leeds. (In an interview once, P mentioned that Leeds had soloed on that song for dozens of minutes at an afterparty -- I want to hear that tape!!!)

I love "Coutin Time",it reminds me of those early 80s "rockabilly" songs that Prince used to do ("Delirious","Horny Toad",etc). It also reminds me of the music that Brian Seltzer was doing in the mid-90s.A cool, fun little jam.

I work at a Pier 1 and we have pre-recorded music compilations, varying in styles and such. One day I just had to stop because on this jazzy0ish kind of compilation, Courtin' Time was played.
Just snapped my fingers to the beat and went on working with some customers. Guess Pier 1 is hip to Prince since Courtin' Time is a rarity, technically. As well, I remember in 1998 the Cleveland Indians played Courtin' Time before each home game at Jacobs Filed in tune with a team highlight reel.
