Name two aspects of Prince's career or music where you just went..."nooooo!" For me it was the first time I heard the bulk of the songs by other artists on "Graffiti Bridge" and especially the title cut of the album.
Second time was Kamasutra. As mentioned in another thread, it's not very good at all.

And when he announced the "Squiggle" era.... I just didn't know how to defend him. Or what to bloody call him!

well, musically the first disappointment must have been 'graffiti bridge'.
too few good songs----it should've just been prince. visually it must have been his look during the symbol years. the 'most beautiful girl in the world' video still haunts me to this day. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain i'm high, so high

1st - arms of orion and about half of grafitti bridge (though joy... and question... saved it).
2nd (and still by far the biggest) the look and sound from 1992 to 1999 (tony M sums that whole era up perfectly but you can't lay alkl the blame with him). All those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand...

1. When I heard 'New Power Soul'
2. When he changed his name back to Prince. I am one of the few people who actually liked the Symbol name change & I just thought it was cheesy when he went back to 'Prince'. All that effort of trying to get everyone to not call him Prince went down the tubes in an instant & made him look like an idiot.

Jughead - the song and the photo
The second one: Liza Minelli hairstyle for Raspberry beret. I just didnt get it.

1. When he had "slave" written across his face! I was cool with the name change and his explanation of it, but that just went too far for me!
2. The changes in his lyrics recently to reflect his spirituality. I have no problem with the way he chooses to live his life but if hes not comfortable singing his old songs as is I dont think he should sing them at all. I want to hear the song the way it was meant to be!

1.The Lovesexy album cover 2.The Name Change 3.When i heard The Rainbow Children DEFINITELY number 1!!! I still remember looking at it in the store window, thinking WTF?! He's gone over the edge this time. Needless to say, I didn't buy the album. You're right on with number 2 as well. I understood WHY he did it, but I thought it was childish. 3. Graffiti Bridge I was turned off for a few years, and now I feel guilty

1. When he cancelled the Sign O' The Times tour and didn't bring it to the States.
2. When Batman became his next project after Lovesexy. One more... 3. When I found out "The One" song wasn't about God but about himself, and that the whole New Power Soul album wasn't Lovesexy-like at all. edit: #3 [This message was edited Wed May 5 9:39:33 2004 by Jasziah]

LOVESEXY COVER - Needless to say, it rarely saw the light of day. One of my favorite albums though.
GB movie - Chewymusic and I were sooooo hyped! We were stunned. Under the cherry moon was not accessible to casual fans, but I love the humor. The NPG dancers and the Rapping - I wanted to slug them with bat. And Prince trying to rap with street swagger. Honorable mention AVATARTFUNK: "3 chains of gold" Whining about ...coffee in my creme... was stupid.

You mean, it made us look like idiots. Prince knew what he was doing with that name change and for all of us, who actually believed for one second that he was going to keep that symbol forever, we were the idiots. For me, the name change was the biggest "NOOOOO!!!" heard 'round the neighborhood and at work when it happened. I knew from day one why he did it and I knew it wasn't permanent. And everytime he explained it in interviews and whatnot, I felt like I was being lied to...because I was being lied to. Another "NOOOOO!!!" heard 'round the neighborhood was when I found out he was releasing full albums on his website. I still have never heard One Nite Alone or Xpectations.

For me, it was all good up through Lovesexy....the first time I cringed a little was with the Batman album..then GB..then D&P.....but the whole "Game Boyz" era (remember the Arsenio performances?) pretty much did me in and I got heavy into the Pixies and lost track of Prince until someone thankfully introduced me to TGE and got me back on board. I do remember seeing the VH-1 Honors and the Interactive/Endorphine performance and thinking..hmmm, he could be back..
In my opinion, the lame, quasi attempts at rapping and trying to appear "gangsta" with Tony M. & Co. did more damage to his career than the name change. People stopped taking him serious before the name change. Look at the My Name Is Prince video..is he serious..? It wasn't just me... I know several people who couldn't take the whole "Gangsta Glam" era and were so disapointed that Prince could have sunk to that low. They still have not listened to him again to this day. Anyone else go through an extended period of time where they just stopped listening to Prince?

1. The release of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" as the second single from SOTT. Before any fans of the song start hammering me, I like the song but it was one of the worst single choices of his career. The title track first single hit hard and there was a lot of momentum for the project. Then this weird, completely misunderstood song comes out and the album sales plummeted. The song only made it in the mid-60's on the Pop Chart , even though it did fare better on R and B. I called our number 1 pop station and the DJ said, quite bluntly, "We will never play that fag sh*t on the air". I talked to him for about 10 minutes (I held between songs) and tried to defend the song but what he said kinda stuck with me. He said that with so many strong singles on the album and he couldn't beleive Prince would release this one. His ignorant initial comment aside, his observation was true in that there were so many other more radio firendly songs on the album. That has been the number one reason why Prince has not completely ruled the pop world like his talent dictates...his complete misunderstanding of how to market his product.
2. I hate to just dwell on single releases, since the man has had any number of other career blunders, but the release of "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" as the first single for Rave. It's not a bad song but , after weeks of Clive Davis talking up the project and proclainimg the song as this tremendous piece of music, it was just so disappointing. The stars were aligned for Rave to be huge and then...splat. Horrible Mention: To this day I still shudder when I think that the first release of "The Gold Experience" was (shudder) "I Hate U. "Dolphin", "Gold"...no screw that how about a ballad! Nooooo! All good things they say never last...

1. Appearing in that FUCKED UP bathing suit for the "Gangsta Glam" video (shit, even recording "gangsta Glam" was bad). And 2. ... TONY MOSLEY. There is no defense available to him for that. This is my first post! Hey ya'll.

1. Many, many parts of the Rave Un2 the Year 2000 concert or whateverthefuck it was called...
2. That part of the "Eye Wanna Melt With U" video when he's on those goddamn rollerskates, prancing around in his wimpy shorts and a huge robe or something. A lamer video hadn't been seen since the days of Bowie & Jagger "Dancing in the Streets!" "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"
