Prince is the only artist to turn down Wierd Al

Taken from Wierd Al FAQ....

Have any artists ever turned Al down for a parody?

Even though most recording artists really do have a pretty good sense of humor, on a few very rare occasions Al has been denied permission to do a parody. Actually, the only artist to turn Al down consistently over the years has been the Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince (sic). Go figure.

What do you think would be a good parody and what would you call it?

One off the top of my head..Neurotic City.

Forgive me. But what about a parody of "Controversy" called "Constipation"

It would go something like " Is it coming now or do I have...to wait. Constipation.

I always thought Weird Al should do a parody of "When Doves Cry," but call it "When Bugs Die."

All throughout the background of the song, he could have the sound of those electric zappers, zapping bugs, ya know?

Anybody?

Man, prince is so sad sometimes!

Anyway,"my name is Prince" would be an easy one, as the video was so weird and sticks in ur head well, the original video must be striking to parody in the first place!

Did Weird Al ever parody Mc Hammer? If he did, that would of been way funny!

The "Bad/Fat "Michael Jackson one is his best! The intro dialogue is spot on! Only real diehard mj fans would find that funny, as that is parading the long version of the "Bad" video! It's odd that Mj loved him apparantly and found him funny but is meant to have no sense of humour (musically and visually) but Prince, despite making the funniest music and funny videos has too much an ego 4 someone to cover his songs like that! Maybe back in the 80's he had more of an ego then now?

Hmm...how about Computer Boob...about a computer idiot. Something like, "where is the On switch...where can it be? There must be something wrong with the electricity."

Or Weird Al singing about himself..."None of the Critics Love Me in New York"?

Criminology could be about the cast of C.S.I.

ok, last one before you all ask me to leave..."When Doves Die", with sounds of Doves smashing into windows that are too clean. "SPLAT!!!, That is what it sounds like...When Doves Die!". razz

Prince may be the only one to consistently turn down Weird Al, but others have done so. There were some hard feelings about 10 years ago when Al asked Coolio if he could parody "Gangsta's Paradise." Coolio said no, but Al did it anyway, resulting in "Amish Paradise." Coolio was pissed.

I'm glad he's turned him down as well 'cause Weird Al is annoying nod

But it's kind of odd considering Prince purportedly has a pretty good sense of humor.

MC Hammer parody: I Can't watch this.

And the Coolio thingy was apparently a miscommunication between managers of both artists. Al has apologized many times after that. Eminem recently allowed Al to do a parody, but would not allow him to release it as a single.

Does anyone happen to know what songs were approached to cover?

I'm glad Prince always turns him down, I don't wanna see some unfunny parody.

Working part time at a five and dime, my boss was Mr. macgee....
I told him several times that I didn't like his kind, cause he was a little too gay for me....
seemed that he was happy wearing something close to nothing, but pinker than the day before.
That's when he wore it, ooowwww, when he wore it, he put it on and we hit the floor.....HE WORE A GAY LOOKING BERET.....THE KIND YOU FIND IN THE U.S MALE STORE. GAY LOOKING BERET.....THANK GOD IT'S NOT WARM, HE WOULDN'T WEAR MUCH MORE. GAY LOOKING BERET.....YOU GOTTA LOVE THE NERVE.
Built like he was, he had the nerve to ask me if I could flex and he could touch my arm.
So look her, I put him in the back of my car and we went riding, down to a bar called the PUSSY FARM.
He said now normally girls...wouldn't turn me on, but something bout being drunk and girls mix...
HEEEEE wasn't too straight....but i could tell when he kissed her....he wasn't all about the dicks..... Repeat chorus

O.K.----i've officially got too much time on my hands.....and don't bombard me with homophobe stuff because it is just a joke

"Private Boy"

Same Lyrics. In the video Michael Jackson coaches the kids by saying," I bought you little Elmo, you been mine ever since, but if the police ask you, you belong to Prince". Then points to a freaked out Prince impersonator.

Shortly after Emancipation was released, I wrote a parody of the title song and changed it to Constipation. If only I had kept the file somewhere....

I'm pretty sure on Al's recent album he made a parody of "I Wanna Be Ur Lover."

Well, to correct my statement, he made a song called "Wanna B Ur Lovr" which used poor pickup lines, obviously a parody of Prince, without actually being a parody.

I neva really cared 'bout Weird Al. Only time I watch him/see him on tv is on 'I Love The 80s'(tellin' the 'Then & Now' segment). If nebody I'd like 2 see Dave Chappelle do'a parody of Prince songs. So many come 2 mind.

He did a good job on some of R.Kelly's songs. I think he used 1 or 2 from TP-2 album & probably the Best Of Both Worlds. I know he did defintely do'a parody of "Feelin' On Yo Booty". It wuz called "I Wanna Piss On You".

Tuesday,May 4,2004 @ 10:00-11:00pm(ET) it wuz on Comedy Central. I think it started off da 2nd half hour OR it wuz eitha afda the Prince skit(Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories)--which started the show off. All I know the R.Kelly parody wuz funny as hell & as always the Prince skit had me dyin', lol

All in IMO Dave should handle this. & I'm sure 2day's Prince probably wouldn't mind.

Nebody else see the same?

Prince maybe the only one to turn Wierd Al down consistently but he's not the only artist to turn him down.

Never been a big fan of Weird Al's so it's no lose.

Actually, can anyone help me out and verify? I remember seeing Weird Al in this movie called UHF where he was on his hands and knees crawling across the floor dressed (undressed) like Prince. Long curly (jerri) hair and holding out his hand as Prince did in the video. I'm very sure I remember this. razz

I think the moment for Al to parody Prince has passed. Al's time has passed on making new gems. Every so often...but not that often anymore.

Dave did a good job and I'd like to see more of him doing Prince. He seems to bring back the characters that were well received.

I want to say I think so...I sort of remember the shot you speak of...it was really short. Just a gag joke...not a complete one. Or the end joke of a sequence that had nothing to do with the Prince visual.
