Besides Prince...

Who else is a musical genius?...or better yet, judging by the poular music of today - who are the current geniuses of POP music?

I'd like to vote for R.Kelly (his personal life aside) his music seperates him from the other R&B artist out there. He can sing about anything from an inspirational song like - U saved me/I believe I can fly to party songs like - Step in the name of Love/Feista, to bedroom slow jams like - Your Body's Calling me/I will Never Leave. He is probably the most talented producer.

He produced a couple of hits for Celine Dion - Because U love me and Angel. Tons of R&B & hip hop hits - for today's populular artist. He can make a whole party song album to sell to the POP audience, or he could flip it and do an album full of bedroom/freak slow jams for the R&B crowd.
His versatility (as a vocalist and song material) clearly sets him apart from other crooners like - Joe, Avant, and Genuine. He also plays Piano & gives an excellent live performance. I think his creativity and talent does place him in the likes of Prince - although a different style of singing and producing. Kelly is the ultimate singer/producer of todays hit music. And no, I'm not trying to endorse R.Kelly in any way...just making a point to start (hopefully) a fun intelectual debate. Who would you choose as today's musical genuis? - which emcompases a great Vocalist/Producer/Mucisian/song writer and a string of hit records. Who else would fit this category?

Thanks for reading..

i have never understood the hype behind r. kelly.
i don't like his music at all. its 2 predictable. besides,
he is stuck in one genre. he is an okay r&b artist. the
only song i can honestly say that i liked was "down low",
other than that, 2 me, he sucks.

I agree with you about R Kelly! I also would have to say Babyface for a lot of the same reasons!
