Funk Rocker Asks, 'Where Am I Coming Back From?'

Prince is having a problem with people who are saying he's having a "comeback."

The funk rocker -- who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March and is touring to supporting his new album "Musicology" -- is bristling at the observation.

He said his question to those who call his resurgence a comeback is, "Where do they think he's coming back from?"

He said the word "comeback" is shorthand for people who "want to see me as having failed."

While it's true that his last two albums have sold only about 100,000 copies -- he said they have been a success financially. Because he writes and produces his own music and maintains the rights, he gets all the money from his projects.

Prince said, when you do the math, "it's a big day at the races." And, he added, "My bankers are very happy."

The musician released "Musicology" last month and teamed with Sony Music to distribute the album. It marked Prince's first dealings with a major label since 1999.

The musician issued a statement about the deal, saying, "I am really an artist and musician at heart, that's what I do. 'Musicology' has no boundaries or formats. It is long overdue to return to the art and craft of music -- that's what this album is about. School's in session."
