Prince to Critics: Pay for tix like everyone else!

I just found this from the Velvet Rope music industry website, where a music critic just shared this e-mail from Prince's camp:

If you are interested in covering Prince's "Musicology" concert in your
city, please note that we have limited tickets reserved for the media to
purchase.

There are no complimentary tickets on this tour. In order to accommodate
your request, we need your name and affiliation (publication, assignment,
call letters, etc.), and complete credit card information including name,
credit card number, expiration date and type (Visa, MasterCard or American
Express only). Ticket prices range from $67 to $125 each (depending on the
market).

Tickets are not guaranteed until we have approved and processed your
request.

If your request is approved, we will notify you by email and tickets will be
left at each venue's "will call" approximately one hour before showtime.
Please let us know the name of the person who will pick up the ticket at the
venue. A photo id will be required to pick up the tickets.

NOTE: No photo passes.

TV Crews can shoot 1 minute of the first song, "Let's Go Crazy." Security
will handle getting the soundboard feed.

It wasn't from NPGMC (not the lack of Princebonics), but from The Lippin Group, who I'm guessing is handling publicity/media relations for him now.

interesting that it says "...minute of the first song, Let's Go Crazy...", isn't that the second song? anyway...this is good. this means the pr people are holding tickets for press. when the press doesn't buy them, those tickets go back into the on sale pool for a desperate fan to get. that's how i got 2nd row janet tickets on her all for you tour...one day before the show!

This is true. A friend of a friend is a promoter who works for AEG. She had to pay for her tix to the LA opening show. When she talked afterwards about how great the show was (for which she paid $75), I knew he was "back" as she was severely disappointed with her last Prince show on the Jam of the Year tour (for which she received free tix).

Think about that. She raved about a show she had to pay $75 for and was disappointed for a show she got in free.

Then, think about critics having to pay for their tix and he is still getting universal good reviews from the shows.! While Prince makes some mistakes on record and in marketing/public relations, nobody can deny his ability playing live.
