Why? Because in my opinion it was the highlight of the Lovesexy Tour show I saw in Detroit on Oct. 30, 1988. He had that flag up in the smoke blowing in the breeze and the whole crowd screaming "Party!" at the appropriate times at the end of the song. It gave me goose bumps and was sooooo climactic. I can understand why he doesn't want to play it, being that it is now 4 1/2 years after the key moment in time mentioned in the song. However, the year 2000 was just symbolic for the end of the world annihilation which many predict, so I say PLAY ON, PRINCE!!!! (the song "1999," that is)
