The CROSS was the first song that ever made me think!
LOVESEXY the album. It took about 5 years for the album to sink in but when it did it was a very profound experence.
MOUNTAINS,7,SACRIFICE OF VICTOR,ELEPHANTS & FLOWERS,I listened to that song for 3 hours after seeing a young man get killed.
PURPLE RAIN was deep too.

Sometimes It Snows In April- I have a sad story about this one. One April my friend's older brother died in a freak accident. His funeral was April 14 and it was snowing. I played this song for him to help him through it.

Wow there's several. Let's see, The Cross, Sign O the Times really made me think. I was 17 when Lovesexy came out and Anna Stesia, Eye Know, Dance On and Positivity really made me wake up and notice, in a horrifying technicolor, how fucked up the world really was. But it made me hopeful. Anna Stesia really helped me with my teenage angst bullshit. And most recently I would have to say The Love We Make and Last December...

I sure can relate to Positivity. I was a little down, not in the situation you were in, but I listened to Positivity, and thought "yeah, no kidding. I can make it through this" So, I copied it down on a piece of paper and stuck it in a special spot. Since then, I've copied many other lyrics to songs that mean something to me. When I need to, I hang one up on this chain I have on a shelf in my bedroom. Other songs that touched me were Wherever U Go, Solo (this one's weird, but I spent a long time figuring it out), Letitgo, and many others of course. The songs that affect me are not the ones you'd expect. Of course, the God-based ones don't do much for me, because it's like saying that we are not in control of how our life goes, and if we look up, things will be fine.

Still, Prince has played a key role in my life, and music is up there in importance to me, equal to the likes of family and friends. That's saying a lot.

Three songs: Anna Stesia- I've lived this song!

Holy River- perfectly sums up the experience I had when I proposed to my wife.

Positivity- This song actually saved my life! Years ago, I was utterly depressed, and on the verge of suicide. One afternoon I was close to the end, when I pressed play on my boom box. I had no idea that the tape in the deck was "Lovesexy" or that the song was cued up to point when Prince sings "In everyman's life there will be a hangup, a whirlwind designed 2 slow U down..." well, y'all know the rest. Needless to say, that song was exactly what I needed to hear at that moment. The song actually managed to make me question how I was handling my depression! I owe my life to a Prince song! smile

Thanks for sharing all your feelings and experiences. It's amazing to see what music does to people...

to me Lovesexy, the album, opened my eyes to good music, the healing power of Positivity, the sheer happines of fucked up (sorry Prince) funk and more.

Funnily enough, though, Alexa de Paris has for many years been the song to make me cry every time I listened to it. Especially at a certain point where the guitar makes a sort of howling noise - that's when tears would come...Strange really, it's even an instrumental. Does anybody else have any special feelings about this song?

Another one is Rave un2 the joy fantastic Live in the Hague (het Paard). If ever I am really angry or really depressed that song makes me feel un top of the world again - the power is awesome, the guitar some of the finest/hardes I've ever heard.

And finally God, the extended version. What amazing sprituality! I'm not religious but this song touches me on a very deep level.

Peace y'all!

BKOOLBABY

I would have to say two songs have had profound affects on me of late. I just found out in Oct. 2001 that my husband of 12 years had been having an affair with someone I knew for two years. "In this bed I scream" and "I hate u". My husband and I have three kids and our middle child (a beautiful little girl) has had three open heart surgeries and many other hospital stays throughout her 7 young years. The depression that I suffered was very hard on my husband and I believe this led him to his affair. One song makes me cry for loving him the other makes me want to show him what he has lost with me forever.

Which songs have affected me?

Musically speaking, it's Adore, hands down. I still get chills down my spine at the end of that song. But also Raspberry Beret, it might just be a 3 minute pop song but it always cheers me up.

Lyrically, the songs which I really identify with are Dolphin (cos I've never been the most outgoing personality in the world) and Elephants and Flowers. I'm not a religious person but I love this line:

"I think I'm gonna fall in love tonight, and when I do:
There will be no sorrow / There will be no pain
There will be no ball / and no chain."

It doesn't have to be the love of God for that to make sense. And the other line in that song that stands out is

"How can he find a shy angel / in a city so bold?
Can't even find a place to dance..."

I know where he's coming from with that one!
I know u people worthless scum give no heart but wrath of insults a brain-driven wave of destruction your bite is worse than your vocabulary. Shame on you all of you. Go feed your pigs coward.

1.Joy in Repetition-simply because of the dreamlike sound of it. It's like U can actually visualize the song. I had a image in my mind similar to how it was in GB, but better.

2.Power Fantastic-Because late at night the Power's creeping.

3.Shockadelica-For the women that U love and hate at the same time.

4.5 Women-Story of my life at one point.

5.17 Days-One of the best B-sides ever.

6.When We're Close and Slow-Instant bedtime song if U know what I mean.

7.All the rest of the song that are numerous to mention, because I can equate every Prince song to something in my life. That's how good the Man is.

Wow, so many of his songs hit deeply, and sometimes affect you differently at different times... But yea, the Beautiful ones is definitely one of them that provokes and radiates such emotion, the intensity of that song is intoxicating...

But yet again, who can just pick one, thats like asking which emotion out of all the possible emotions have affected you most, happiness, jealousy, sadness, grief, pride, too too hard wink These emotions just like Prince's songs all make up part of the human experience, and so it's difficult to neglect the unique affects they have on us at different times of our lives...

I have been a Prince fan for as long as I have been breathing.I remember my mother blasting his music throughout our house all the time ( even the songs inappropriate for little ears). I think the song that touches me the most is "Purple Rain". My mother abandoned my siblings and I when I was about 11 years old. This event had a great impact on my life. Good times and Bad, this song can allows bring me to a peaceful state of mind. Everytime I see the movie, I still cry when he sings the song and just as he did, I dedicate it to the person that caused me the greatest pain in my life (my mother). I feel that through Prince's music, that is the only place and time when I have my mother in my life if only for a moment.

The Holy River

That song has been such a source of inspiration for me ever since it first came out.

Also Dolphin and Still Would Stand All Time have very special meanings for me, but The Holy River really sums it all up
