Musicology Still Selling Well in 4th week

I know I always get my hopes up with that damn HITS Daily Double site but Musicology is currently number 2 with 4% of the tally in. It has sold 3,623 so far. If that pace kept up (and I know it won't) than the number could exceed last weeks sales. It'll probably end up selling around 50-60K and depending on whether or not some shows are counted (I thought I read somewhere on this site that two shows would be tabulated into the final numbers) we're looking at another 80-90 K total this week (definitely TOP 15).

AND, it's still kicking ass on Amazon (#4).

AND, "Call MY Name" is getting added all over the place (except for my hometown, of course).

AND...well, I need to get a life and stop keeping up with all this minutae...

Spoke too soon...with 21.21% of the vote, Musicology has only climbed to 10,072....it's defintely looking like 50,000 this week...a new video is desperately needed.

It's actually still going pretty well without much radio play.

It will still be top 10 with the two concerts added.

It will drop right down for 2-3 weeks though with no concert add-ons unless a new single really catches on.

Still good numbers though. biggrin

Did I miss something? Was that "A Million Days" being released as a single to Top 40 stations a fake? Cause I think that would help sales alot, along with Call My Name.

i think this is still a really good showing without a top 100 song. i think enough people have heard musicology now to make their minds up on it so its time for call my name, which is rising nicely, hopefully it will help keep the album afloat next week. if the album stays in the top 10 its a miracle, but if its in the top 20 i think we can be satisified (if you get that feeling from the charts!).

will be nice if he has a hit single cos it will be a shame if the album basically has 80k sales for months cos of 75k concert sales and nothing else!

Not looking so good for a Top 10 finish right now. With about 86% of the sales in, prince is hanging at number 13. Only about 2,000 records separates number 9-13 so maybe Prince can bob and weave his way into a TOP 10 finish. It will be Top 10 in Billboard ragardless. With sales of 50 K plus 20-25K for 2 shows, the album will sell 75,000 which will put it at Number 6. That will knock Teena Marie, another great R and B old school comeback, down to 7th.

All and all a great showing but a fourth week in the Top 10 without factoring in the sales would be quite an achievement. Hell, regardless of however anyone looks at it, 4 weeks in the Top 20 is spectacular considering where the man was at the beginning of the year.

In case anyone is wondering, Lionel Richie's comeback album is out of the Top 50 after a week. Outrageous!

btw, I'm almost certain there is only one show in this reporting period which goes from Thursday - Wednesday (May 6- May 12) . Regarless he should be around # 7 on Billboard

Totals are in and Musicology is number 10...this is just such a psychological victory because I didn't want anyone to say the album couldn't stay in the Top 10 without the concert sales. Sales only dropped 27%...a terrific number compared to drops of D12 (42%), Petey Pablo (51%), and Mario Winians (40%). Grreat work Prince and Sony...now let's get a video out for "Call My Name".

4 weeks in the top 10, with or without concert CD "sales", is pretty damn impressive for Prince considering all the other factors...

also, #10 without the concert CDs added is the same number it was last week before concert CDs were added in. If there are 2 dates to add in, it should end up in the 6-7 range.

That's truly amazing...the album must be having some kind of word of mouth success. I was one of those people who thought it would plummet this week, and I'm happy to see I was wrong.

are there any big releases coming up next week? Airplay for Call my name is really picking up quickly. I wonder if there's a chance it could stay in the top 10 area while he's on the break from touring.

No clue, although I keep thinking that it's hovering somewhere around 380,000-400,000 copies sold without counting the concert CDs...
