What is Prince's most bitter song?

I go with Thieves in the Temple or I hate U..anybody know exactly if either of these two were directed at anybody in particular, or just inspired songwriting?

'Had U' was directed at WB (or so I've heard)

Eye Hate U
Had U
Poor Little Bastard
Work That Fat (he's really not nice to that fat girl)
Billy Jack Bitch
Face Down

But Prince doesn't have a lot of bitterness in his songs...he doesn't seem like he's a bitter person, generally.

Had U was also a book-end for Prince's WB output... first song was For You, last song was Had U.
That's my theory anyway smile

No No No...

I few of you have mentioned "eye hate U", but this song is not bitter.

Its a song about pain more than anything, I can relate to this song entirely.

Its a battle of the mind over the heart.

the so called "bitter" lyrics is the mind willing the heart out of a lost cause.

its like a court battle where the prosecuter or the mind has countless valid arguments;
but in the end, the heart or the defendant presents its one and only argument in one single line "...because I love U.." and wins the case.

This is one of my favorite Prince songs, its just amazing, only Prince can do stuff like this.
-"If U don't like,
what U see here
-get the FUNK out."

To a certain degree both "Lady Cab Driver" and "Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)" are bitter, too. In fact, for me the entire "1999" album has a lot of bitterness, one can feel the anger in it easily. Probably that's why it's one of his best. smile

'Wasted Kisses'.

I'm not sure if 'Mad Sex' is an affectionate jibe or not.

most of the 3 disc opus "Emancipation" was actually inspired by or dedicated 2 her,
also "the most beautifull girl ...", and "the morning papers" from earlier works.

We're talking bitter, right? "Face Down" is about as bitter as he gets. "The Beautiful Ones" gets honorable mention with "paint a perfect picture, the beautiful ones will smash it every time."

The first song that came to my mind is "Hello". It's directed towards anyone and everyone involved in the "We are the world" project.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

It has to be "I Hate U" .....it demonstrates painfully the transition from Love to Resentment to Bitterness & finally to Hate.....this is one of Princes most poetically tragic songs.....undeniably a classic

Right The Wrong without a doubt. Any song that has an African-American man singing about the struggle of the Native Americans and directly links it to his personal issues with his record company for not handing him out enough millions surely gets my vote.

This song is sooo bitter!!! He's pissed in this song! He's mad that he still loves her even though she hurt him! He even says in the song "if I sound a little bitter it's cause my baby you danced for a dollar..."
This isnt on the version thats on TGE but the version thats on the single.
Wasted Kisses is very bitter.
I also think If I Was Your Girlfriend falls into the bitter category! Especially near the end. It sounds very condescending!
