Prince has influenced a generation of artists.
Andre 3000 has one routine that he's done on several albums.
If I hear him shout "alright, alright, alright" one more time....razz

I like Outkast a lot, but there's no contest is there ?

As far as the Lenny K omision: Dude I was tired...

I figured that . . . didn't mean that comment as a knock, I just prolly woulda listed Lenny first.

Now I did not say that they themselves were attempting to crwon themselves as the next Prince. I said that "Lord knows there have been many attempts by record companies and the masses to crown a new "His Royal Badness" with as yet no success."

No disagreement with you there for the most part.

As for the ones u disagreed on.

Teddy Riley back in 1991 was thought of by the mainstream hip hop listener as a "sampling" producer genius. Hell MJ did a whole record by him.

Understood. Myself, I just didn't consider him an heir to Prince, but the New Jack Swing genre's Quincy.

Puffy the same thing. A strong case could be made to likening "Junior Mafia" to the "Starr Company". As producers go Prince is sometimes I think forgotten as one of the best and most influential R&B producers (PRODUCER) in the early 80's. Everything that came out had his REAL stamp on it. Same for Puffy in the middle 90's. Puffy just lacks Prince's musical and over all geniuos.

I hear ya.

Devante Swing was pretty strong as far as producer of hits

Okay, you know his work better than I do.

I included some on the list completely because of there ability to be compared to or rather nominated to take on the Prince legacy by mainstream or record company's looking for something as all powerful as Prince symbolized.

Gotcha.
Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

1. Half that list is incorrect and of your own opinion (ex: Jill Scott was NEVER marketed by her label as the next Prince)
2. The same could be said for MJ using Justin, Usher, Sisqo, etc.
3.The same could be said of Madonna using Britney, Chrissy A, Pink, etc.
The point - only a few from the 80s made it to this level; thus the comparisons. RECORD LABELS STOPPED MAKING SUPERSTARS IN THE LATE 80s! Its not profittable as making disposable generic stars.

god as always people don't read what is right in front of them. Prince was a superstar by a fluke. It's know way that this guy was ever meant to be a music superstar in the mix the way it was. In other words if one takes a look around the biz very few musical genius are ever considered superstars.

By current record sales standards Hendrix and Dylan could not have been considered superstars IN THEIR DAY (Not including their catologue sales over the last 35 years)

and jeez I wish peole would not take the statement as to the NEXT PRINCE so literal. I meant some one who ...ah forget it this is pointless. I'ts like trying to teach a cat how to flush the toilet, he's got no opposable thumbs... (read into that one)

Gotcha.

not because you agree with me, but because I have found another person on this ORG who actually analyses, thinks, and then proposes an idea that is actually thoughtful and relevant to the actual post.

U are enlighten I hope we meet alot here on the ORG.

OK so that means he hasnt acheived being Prince No2 in certain peoples eyes. But why does it matter. Its kinda like making a list of people that never managed to pull off a true coup of being like Michael Jackson or Elvis and having Prince on the list along with every single solo artist. There are actually alot of people that don't think Prince holds a light to Beck inspite of marketing or whatever. I can see what your saying with your list but in a way it's insulting to alot of artists.

Famboozled

Well, the Kobe/Jordan comparison is just as ridiculous as the Andre3000/Prince one.

Kobe is not 1/10th the player Jordan was. None of the players around today have come even close yet. Jordan is a one-off and I doubt that anyone will surpass him for a long, long time.

Andre 3000 is good and one day may be great. Prince is great +++
