I think it's much better than Hendrix's version.

Oh, and which version might that be?There are at least 14 officially released versions by Jimi Hendrix.

This thread reminds me of someone who posts here that said he/she heard the first single from Musicology and then ranked all over the ENTIRE album based on its lead-off single alone with multiple threads, claiming; "you don't have to hear the whole album to know what it's gonna be like."

Weeks later when the album was released this person came back to make multiple threads fawning about how great Musicology is...

I like Prince's version better than Jimi's from "Are You Exprienced?" and the Woodstock album. Maybe that's just me, take away Jimi's distortion, and he wasn't that good. Sure, he could take five note riffs and make them sound awesome, but he was that talented. Creative, yes; talented, somewhat.

This is the most retarded thread I have seen in some time.

What kind of a fool thinks he can deduce a whole song from a little clip?

Take away Jimi and there'd be no Prince. Jimi influenced Prince AND Prince's influences, Wake up.

hendrix had incredible technique, he wasnt reliant on feedback, it was just an embellishment on what was already incredible. hendrix could sound like there were two rhythm guitarists in his band and play the lead at the same time.

Yeah, I do play the guitar, and I think Hendrix's stuff is very easy to play. I haven't ever found anything that just rocked my socks off, and I've heard a lot of Hendrix. This is an argument I won't win, so I'll just stop.

ure sayin u dig prince's version better.. but who's doin the tribute?

face it, Jimi is/was the best.. Prince came after him.. and yes prince is genius at the guitar.. but respect ure elders damnit.. Jimi inspired Prince.. remember who inspired who.

Distortion or not, He was amazing, and obviously u havent heard all he's got to offer, or else u wouldnt be sayin crap like u are. I got stuff for days on Jimi and he was fucking incredible.. and it all came from jimi.. No'one did that shit when he was surfacing.. not the way he did.

exactly, i can dig someone saying they dont much like him but to say he wasnt 'much good' or that he wasnt 'that special' or that they could play them with no problem, you need to GTFOHWTBS.

Although I think Hendrix is very talented, I don't think he is the best....

i was really looking forward to hearing it, i thought prince would do it justice, maybe do it raw and spare like the undertaker sessions, but from the snippet i heard, this is no better than half the other listenable but ultimately horribly dull and banal modern blues thats out there.

with guys like jack white updating blues-rock from a fresh perspective or otis taylor doing interesting, fresh, rootsier things with the genre, you might think prince would try and show what he can do as well but all he did was make the song sound like robert cray doing some sort of sterile R&B cover of a hendrix classic. lol@everyone that used to say prince was an heir to hendrix' throne - this does nothing to make a good case for that supposition.

I think we should hold back on our reviews until we actually hear the whole thing..IMHO.
