Does the fact that Prince has moved away from his filthiest lyrics and "matured" make you feel old??????

I know the argument is that Prince changing the lyrics to older songs is ruining his art. Sort of like George Lucas re-tinkering the original Star Wars (nerd alert), so I understand that.

However, I cannot help but think that a good portion of people resist the idea of Prince toning the potty mouth stuff down because it makes them feel old.

To many fans Prince was THE rock and roll rebel of their youth. He made you and girlfriends blush, and you didn't let your mom listen to all of his songs. He was so naughty and that just made you love him more. So to have this rebel with the FU/rudeboy attitude who was the soundtrack to your formative years talk about stop "pushing the envelope" makes you realize that times change, everyone gets older/wiser and hopefully happier. If people don't growup they don't end up like Peter Pan they end up like Michael Jackson.

I don't know what I think about Prince not cussing anymore-I guess I miss it a bit because there is a definite attraction to the anti-authority figure. However, what I realize is that by refusing to cuss and be raunchy, Prince has once again set himself aside as being unique from most everybody else on the pop scene.

I'm only 34, so no ...really...it doesn't make me feel old at all....other things do, but not because Prince has chosen not to sing his raunchy songs.

No - and I don't get the big whoop. John Waters made a profanity-free movie to shock his fans (Hairspray) and nobody got bent out of shape over that.

I'll be 21 in two days. I've liked Prince since I was little, and I remember loving "Cream" and "Gett Off" when they first came out. That was 1991, so I was about eight. My parents even bought the cassette for me, fully knowing what was on the "Diamonds and Pearls" album. Go figure, LOL. But I didn't really get into Prince until junior high. He was still singing dirty lyrics back then, and getting naughty on "The Gold Experience." However, I ended up buying every album he had released, so I heard "Darling Nikki," "Head," "Jack U Off"... I fell in love with those songs, and while talking to my cousin, she told me she got to see the "Purple Rain" tour at the Forum in Los Angeles when she was 17. I will forever be jealous of her for that, because I will probably never see Prince perform "Darling Nikki" (which probably ranks among my top five songs by any artist) live, or "Let's Pretend We're Married" or any of those classic raunchy-but-awesome songs he did in the early part of his career. I am glad that he's kept "Controversy" and "Little Red Corvette" in the setlist, but I am upset there is no "1999," though. That is the song that got me totally hooked on Prince.

I guess in a sense, I am disappointed we don't get the dirty songs anymore, but in the end, you have to be happy the guy is still out there making waves after 25 years. I get to see him live for the first time in August, and that definitely is what counts. And I'm nothing but thrilled by the response "Musicology" is getting, and the songs are great. Prince is in a different place now. That's really all there is to it. He's forever an amazing musician.

I'm with you, I'm 31 and his choosing not to cuss is no big deal to me. In my opinion he didn't cuss that much before. I mean when you look at each album it may be one to two songs where he might cuss but it was such a mix of music that it wasn't overbearing--know what I mean? It was all relative to the music. I'm going to miss that versatility about him. I would prefer that he not sing those so-called raunchy songs rather than change the words to something he might call "holy."

It doesn't make me feel old (the mirror takes care of that), but it is a lame thing to do (changing the lyrics). He should either not sing those songs or write some new songs with clean lyrics.

I don't enjoy songs with too much cursing, so it doesn't really bother me. If I like a song that does have it, it won't stop me from appreciating a good song, but still feel the cursing does mess it up a little. It does depend on the song or what they're saying, but I do prefer not to have the cursing at all & if it's important, I was born in the 70's.

No. It makes HIM seem old.

On the one hand, it's cool that, when you think about it, he's just going against the grain like he always has, except now he's being more subdued in a hyper-sexual pop culture, instead of the other way around.

On the other hand, he deserves to be beaten with his own stilletoes for changing lyrics.

Prince can PREACh about Stuff left and Right but Whether one CHOOSES to LISTEn and Follow what he Says is Another Matter. I do Believe we all have Free Will and well Nobody is Gonna tell me stop Having a Good time and such and such. I for one will Get Wild Forever whether he's Preaching about Jehovah or not. I am Sure other fans will Also do Their Own Thing and not 100% Convert to Prince's way. I love Prince is Right but well I am not MATURING and GETTING OLD and COBWEBBY for No One...I believe ya can be a TEENAGER forever. Why ya gotta be STAGNATINg and WORRYing Bout TRIFLING STUFF? NEVER!!! NEVER!!!
