Billboard Chart Beat - "Musicology is Prince's highest debuting album of all time" PURPLE REIGN: This is the Prince comeback you were waiting for. The "Musicology" (NPG/Columbia) CD enters The Billboard 200 at No. 3, making it Prince's highest-debuting album of all time. No Prince set has charted higher since the "Batman" soundtrack spent six weeks at No. 1 in 1989.
In its first chart week, "Musicology" is tied with "Parade" (1986) and "Diamonds and Pearls" (1991) as the second-highest charting Prince albums of all time. The only albums to chart higher were the three sets that went to No. 1. Aside from "Batman," those chart-topping Prince albums are "Purple Rain," which ruled for 24 weeks starting in August 1984 and "Around the World in a Day," on top for three weeks in May 1985. | |
