Get some guitar in there man When he does "white rock", he does it oh so well! "he needs to"...why? Simply coz he does that best His RnB compositions don't even come anywhere near the best in that genre Until such time as they do, he should just cut his loses and move on..

"he has to"...why? There's nothing wrong in recapturing your audience, and 'that' audience was lost a long time ago... he needs to play the field now and stop marginalising himself from the greater potential success that awaits him

I think that [insert Musicology track under discussion here] is the wrong single for [insert type of chart/country here], he needs to release a track more in the vein of [name hot artist/group here], he should release [insert personal favourite track from Musicology here].
For example, [Call My Name] is the wrong single for [the pop charts in the Uk], he needs to release a track more in the vein of [The Darkness], he should release [The Marrying Kind]. Or [The Marrying Kind] is the wrong single for [the r'n'b chart in the USA], he needs to release a track more in the vein of [Outkast], he should release [Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance]. And I stand unreservedly by my opinion on this matter.

Call my name is far too sophisticated a song to hit the UK top 40.
If he released Life O the Party here, despite the majority of us thinking it's weak, he'd have a hit. Sounds bizarre, that's what'd happen though.

Prince is at a point in his career where he doesn't play the singles game the way everyone else does anymore.....
I don't think it's that important to him..... been there done that The charts are over-rated and he recognizes that

not a bad song, but won't make waves much. I prefer to hear Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance as the second single. Much better sounding for the funk audience out ther, imo. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

Trying to get the "rockers" is exactly the way to assure this album dies along with his comeback. R&B listeners over 30 WERE his core! Those that started with him but lost interest during the 90's. "Call My Name" is a message to them (us) he is back! That's the one song, that when I play it for old school Prince fans peaks their interest in the album. It's one of the few songs on the album that sounds like vintage Prince. It's best choice for the next single. Hell it should have been the first! Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

If the result is a hit single great but he has so much fun making and playing the music he finds himself in a satisfying cycle..... The charts are over-rated

True...and I don't care if the general public buys it or not. As far as the 'white rock' thing goes, I guess I can see why some haters are crapping on 'Musicology'. Too much RnB, too many black folks in the video. Spike sure called it in 'Do The Right Thing'. TheLodger,
Insatiable Let's Work Do Me Baby I Wanna Be Your Lover All classic R&B grooves You have to remember when he first started the record companies only were receptive to black artists that would play R&B He gradually "broke the rules" as his popularity grew

Prince knows that he can pop at any time...at will.....
He's picking now as the time to do it..... If it was just about having hits and making the charts he would have released the recordings that only us as real fans know that would have been hits but end up being bootlegs or B-sides
