Musicology review in Spanish El Pais newspaper (Tentaciones)

This is the Musicology review from Tentaciones (http://tentaciones.elpais.es, subscription required). It is a supplement of El Pais (the most read newspaper in Spain), published on friday, addressing music/films/comics etc. In short, modern culture. It is rather influential in Spain, together with other specialized publications as Rockdelux (whose review I will translate when available).

The genius never left

8 (out of 10 points)
Prince redebuts coming back to the old school: due to that the title, due to that the booklet emulating an old manual (a trick also used by Pearl Jam in Vitalogy). But going to the point: is the genius back or not? Response: in spite of his excentricities -now he's a Jehova witness-, he never left. It's clear from his repertoire. From the well greased machinery able to create original songs with all the rhythmic patterns dominated by the Minneapolis guy. From a mixture of hard funk remembering the best part of Dirty mind, his 1980 album, Musicology oscillates with success between the slower and the quicker. Without being a classic Prince album, it is definitely worth the trouble.
