since music is coming around full circle and most music is crap now adays. I think prince could make akiller album if he would get back to the old funk styles and syncopations of the dirtymind controversy era a true funk album

Face it. It's gone. You'll never see 1980 (or '81)again. The Dirty Mind era came then it went. If you were lucky enough to exist in that time and see this little Black guy in briefs and trench coat singing in falsetto, then good for you. I wasn't even born yet and I wisdh I coulda seen it, but I'm not complaining about it.

You've still got the album to reminisce and reflect on that great time. Dirty Mind is still a great album even after 23 and some odd years. It's got Punk, Funk, Soul, Pop, New Wave, etc. And Prince had the audacity to break the rules with the content. It was groundbreaking. But if you wanted to see Prince do something like that now, don't even think about it. Like he said to Tavis Smiley, "it's just old skin now".

If Prince won't return to that era, then you'll have to just accept it. He's older and wiser and mature with his music now and wishes to take his style to new, different, and exciting levels. Lest we forget the fact that he gives praise to Jehovah, you can definitely forget about him doing that now. Besides, he was about 22 then, and when you are an artist at that age you're still trying to find yourself and your style. And that style that Prince took on was jus him trying to grow as an artist.

Look, if you wanna see something similar to that style, check out this band that I saw last year. They're insane. Gil Mantera's Party Dream carries on the electro-new wave-dance-funk sound mixed with bizzarre comedy, and male nudity. Dig:

I miss the Dirty Mind era too... possibly because I was born in 1983, but I still miss it damnit!!!

I find it incredible many here look at his past catalogue/tours as wrong or sinful music/behaviour. All this talk about how he has evolved and matured since is truly devaluating the true genius of his work. There's nothing immature about it. As a matter of fact I think that artistically Prince has fallen from great heights. He went from raw and unpolished to poetic, but now there's very little of that in his new releases. Lyrically Prince's output is pretty banal these days.

Love songs are corrupted with political and biblical statements, dance songs are boring and too self indulgent and in a way reflect the same egotistical mindset as celebrated in hiphop.
