so what on earth is FUNK? I've read many posts here trying to define the FUNKIEST P's song or album...
When I think of FUNK I think of the music style. Maybe I'm old fashion, but what comes to my mind are sthe sounds I heared from G. Clinton, J. Brown, Kool and the Gang... Lots of Bass & Brass So after (at last) listening to Musicology, I find it to be very FUNKY. Many people here will say "that cd is crap". So? Technically speaking... WHAT'S FUNK???? Funk is the rhythm of The One. The One is the accent of the beat on the 1 & 3 of the meter instead of the traditional 2 & 4 (although there is Funk that uses traditional 2 & 4), in R&B/Soul this was pioneered by James Brown. He is the flashpoint.
Funk is/was Dr. J. with that bodacious afro taking off from the free throw line for a dunk. Funk is earthy. Funk CAN BE polished. Funk can be a party. Funk can be political. Funk can be silly. Man... the beats they make... what's funkier than that?  hit on the 1 ...the 3 ... shake it up and hit the 2....bring it home on the 4...doowhutchalike... as long as the rhythm is hot and deeply felt..
