I seem to like Prince stuff that everybody else hates.

e.g. I really like Cinnamon Girl, Life O The Party and IPC&C off Musicology which seem to be the big hates of the album.

And while I love most of Prince's stuff, I still like his corny stuff like Cream and Peach. Nobody mentions these very often... what's the deal there? Are these shunned?

Is my taste shit?

Can I ask why? I realise it isn't groundbreaking or even close to his previous stuff but I still really enjoy it. I love Candy on the chorus... forgive me!

There's nothing wrong with any of those songs.
Though, I have to say, people do seem to like ICP&C around here.
The other songs, like you said, are not too groundbreaking.
That's why people shoot them down.
Plus everyone seems to want something different from prince--more rock, more funk, more nasty lyrics, more of what he used to do, more slow jams, more experemental stuff, and on and on.
I did a cover of peach once. It helps you to appreciate a song when you play it yourself.

No, your taste isn't shit. I also like most of Prince's music. It used to get to me when people would trash this or that song. Nowadays, I don't care. I think that this (Prince's) music really speaks to you and that's why you like it the way you do.

I think Peach is just a bullshit slapped together jam and I think that's the way it was intended to be... I love it! headbang

Cream is totally tongue in cheek in my opinion but still a GREAT pop track.

These are the ones that the radio listeners (not necessarily Prince fans) really dig. I went to a gig in Brisbane with a bunch of people who didn't really get into Prince but enjoyed the hits and they really missed him not playing them.

that is one of the things that makes prince interesting. he has a pretty wide palate of work spanning decades, and some folks like certain aspects better than others. there are some folks that think everything past the revolution is crap. some people thing lovesexy is the pinnacle. some people really like chaos and disorder. it's weird.

Hardcore Prince fans tend to dislike anything that is ground Prince has already covered. Anything that isn't something considered musically challenging tends to get written off as a throw away, and something not worth listening to. There are Prince songs that I don't like, but it isn't based on "Oh, well this sounds like this, so who cares?" People seem to have a huge problem with "A Million Days" because they say it sounds like "Dolphin." Personally, I think the songs are very different, obviously when it comes to the lyrics, but also regarding the tone and the pitch, and even the melody to a certain point. They're both rhythm guitar heavy and have a similar drumb beat. So why does that make "Dolphin" good and "A Million Days" not? When people bash songs or stuff I like, I just shrug and remind myself that it doesn't make a lick of fuckin' difference what anyone else likes. It's important what music entertains and moves you, not the other fans.

And for the record, I like Life 'O' The Party as well wink

The nice thing about music, is that you can like anything you want. I hate it when people rip on others about what they listen to.... mad

No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking something that appeals to you, even if the majority of others dislike it, and always remember that...I think the ending of 'Cinnamon Girl' is genius, 'Cream' is one of my favorites, and so is'Diamond & ;Pearls', which gets the talk around here, & 'Peach' is so funky, so there, your taste is all right in my book!!! nod

...& let me not forget, the title track 'Musicology' is my favorite songs on the album, and matter of fact, I like ALL the songs on this album. POSITIVITY*
