Moderator | Prince Children's Album (Update 4/29) I remember a while back during the "love4oneanother" days, he mentioned doing a children's album. Now having a child of my own, I'm going to get him a little CD player for his room. With it, I want him to have his very own first Prince album. He's not even 2 yet, but he's already got a BIG LOVE for music!
Please help me come up with a track list. I'll put together the artwork and everyone with children can have it for download, if you want. Maybe we'll call it the "Paisley Parent" CD. Maybe not. So far I've gathered these: Musicology Paisley Park (extended version with the dolphin sounds) Mountains (extended version with the "Get out on that dance floor") Walk Don't Walk Round and Round The Rest Of My Life Oilcan (off the goldnigga album, great prelude into the next song) Make Yo Mamma Happy Color (from the 1-800-NEWFUNK album) The Same December (I like the message) I Wish U Heaven Starfish And Coffee Don't Let'em Change You (From GCS-2000, I like the cartoon sounding voice) Delierious Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do Take Me With U Don't Talk To Strangers Graffiti Bridge Thanks for all of your help [This message was edited Thu Apr 29 8:13:09 2004 by yamomma] [This message was edited Thu Apr 29 8:13:47 2004 by yamomma] All Rights Reserved. |

Sounds like a great idea, and there are plenty of Prince songs that are clean, positive and uplifting, which while not corrupting our kiddies would also give them the chance to hear a great range of Prince styles.
Personally, I'd call it "A Rainbow for Children". You could also include : One of Us I Will I Wish U Heaven I Would Die 4 U Forever In My Life Paisley Park With You all lyrically clean and (mostly) uplifting. Also possibly : Curious Child Walk Don't Walk Gold Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I remember that from the Loveforoneanother days too
Dont forget " Be My Mirror " that would make a nice addition to the CD you are making Much love Sunny Funny Face

Also possibly : Curious Child Walk Don't Walk Gold I wish I had a tracked version of Lovesexy. I like the idea of having I wish U heaven on there. Paisley Park is a good one to be on there too. I have Walk Don't Walk on the list. Kids would love the horn beeping sounds. Not sure about some of the other songs though. Not that they are bad songs, but for a children's album, I think they should all be more upbeat. I know my son could not sit through "With You" and Curious Child. Also, forever in My life is more of a romatic love song and not for kids, don't you think? I really, really, really appreciate your feedback though. All Rights Reserved. |

I was thinking about the sentiment rather than the type of song it is. And in the same vein as Walk Don't Walk, what about Wedding Feast (I can't stand it myself but I think it would make kids smile). If you have Lovesexy on CD and you (presumably) have a PC you can download the necessary software (if you don't already have it) and track it yourself. It's easy (but time-consuming) to do. If you want to do this and need more info on it let me know. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Don't forget "Musicology", the song...
It's got a great beat, very simple song, and kids seem to like the "don't u touch my stereo, these are MY records" part. I know my kids REALLY like this song. (ages 8 & 6). Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Ain't nothing wrong with hipping your kids to the funk. I wouldn't expose them to the early, dirtier tracks, but I would let them hear the clean stuff.
My kids are 15, 14, 11 & 10 and they all have such an eclectic taste in music. One is a Rocker, the others are into what I consider trash... today's version of R&B. We listen to alot of Praise and worship music as well. If they like a Prince track, they listen to it, if they don't, they don't. I don't dictate that. I just try and remind them from time to time who's making the real music and who's not. Lovesexy Funkateer

To me this sounds like "we have to invade Iraq because I KNOW THERE ARE WEAPONS THERE, and I KNOW WHAT i'M TALKING ABOUT..." No, because Prince isn't the only real musician I am referring to. And it's not dictating like that at all. You need to lighten up man... did your parents force you to listen to Polka music your whole life and now you're freaking out about it or what? She said "Wow, you lied to me" lol We both got a good laugh out of it. Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

2 more you might consider:
Partyman~ It's upbeat, fun & bouncy. Manic Monday~ I made a girl compilation for my little girl (Selena, Britney, Madonna, etc.) I added Manic Monday, and surprisingly, it's one of her favorites. The beginning keys caught her attention, now it's just a big sing-along for her. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. What a GREAT IDEA!!!!
I am SO SICK of the Wiggles! hahahaha! My 2 year old daughter loves music, too. From a very early age, she has loved The Beatles. Some of their songs have a quality to them that seems almost like children's music (songs like "When I'm 64," "Ob-La-Di..." and so on). I would LOVE to get her into Prince. A good call... Let me know the "final" track list...I'll be doing this, too. Keith/Kacey

Sorry, I think you missunderstood. I was not suggesting this compilation as a child's only CD, but a his or her first Prince CD. Example: on my son's shelf where he has about 25 Wiggles CDs, Sesame Street, Elmo, Disney, etc... There will be a child safe Prince CD placed there if he chooses to listen to it or not. I will probably do the same for Stevie Wonder and James Brown next. All Rights Reserved. |

You know I'd like to put alphabet street on there, but all that lip sloppin at the end would be a little too much for a little kid. I guess we could say that she was eating ice-cream! I could hear it now. "Daddy, what's a horny pony?" (the jerk your body like a horny pony would line) [This message was edited Wed Apr 28 12:26:14 2004 by yamomma] All Rights Reserved. |
