It's called 'Dear Mr Man'!! It's a letter addressed to 'man' as in 'the human race'. Not 'Dear Mr Muslim' or 'Dear Mr Christian'. If the description fits, it refers: so, if someone says 'To kill is a sin' and then kills or condones killing, then the line refers to them, regardless of their faith etc.. .
