MUSICOLOGY and 4 other PRINCE albums burn charts! Sales figures....

As MUSICOLOGY burns the Top 3 of this weeks chart...4 from Prince's back catalog have all seen big increases and will chart in and around the Top 200 Catalog charts...including 'Very Best of Prince' at #1.

Here's how they fared...

NOTE: Sales for 'Purple Rain' reflect figures since the SoundScan era began in 1991. Total US sales are around the 14 million mark

Top 200 Catalog Soundscan Chart...week ending 4/26

TITLE/CURRENT WEEK SALES/SALES TO DATE

1-'Very Best of Prince'/19,524/804,576 (42% increase)
32-'Purple Rain'/4,886/2,080,941 (42% increase)
93-'The Hits 2'/2,864/1,572,040 (50% increase)
142-'The Hits 1'/2,322/1,291,522 (81% increase)

There you are!

And the stuff on those releases, is not even the best of Prince- in my opinion. With the exception of New Power Soul, you have to buy all his CDS, plus some bootleg stuff to get the best.....

I'm surprised NEWS didn't chart - it was selling fairly well at amazon.

oh - I see that's the catalog chart - NEWS would be in the hot 200 - any idea if it sold enough to get on there?

i have no idea, i checked amazon yesterday and it had 2 copies left of news, with more on the way, so it has been selling pretty well but does anyone have any idea what sales are like on amazon? news spent one day at about 75, then hovered on 150 for abit. so i mean, it might not really have sold more than 100 copies over this week. which is good in a sense (huge increase i imagine!) but obviously this probably hasnt been reflected cos amazon had it on an offer thing. so obviously 100 copies wouldnt be enough to break the top 200!

I checked my records and 'N.E.W.S.' is nowhere on it. The #200 record on the chart is Staind '14 Shades of Greay' and that sold 5,355 so it did'nt sell more than that

Vanity isnt that last weeks figures? because The Very Best Of Prince sold over 39,000 copies this week and this weeks chart should say for the week ending May 3rd

that would explain why N.E.W.S isnt on there yet

Keep in mind, an album like NEWS isn't generally gonna make a significant impact on pop or r&b charts. It's a fusion album, fans who demand lyrics aren't going to be into it.
