Prince should appear on Oprah and....

Prince should appear on Oprah to talk about music and perform. If he appears on Oprah and performs, I think it would do more than the Grammy performance and RRHOF combined.

Yes, he should be on Oprah. He'll be in Chicago in June for almost a week, and that's plenty of time to tape an episode of Oprah. By then he'll be promoting his 2nd or 3rd single.

Maybe us Chicago members of the NPGMC could get tickets to an Oprah show L.A. members got tickets to Ellen.

For real. Oprah will rave about him and the new album and her viewers will buy it. Oprah have a lot of buying influence on her viewers. The sales of her book club is ridiculous.

I have to be very honest here. I'm a very big fan for about 25 years now and I have to admit that I personally hated his emancipation guest spot on Oprah. It seemed very strange. I understand that we all go through changes in our lives, but that was a strange show. I felt uncomfortable watching it. He actuall came across to me as strange even though I know that he is not like that. It was just my most not liked Prince experience only followed by the paisley park emancipation release party. I didn't like the vibe at all. Just my opinion.

his child's death just days before could certainly have played a part in that.

Didn't he lie to Oprah and say his child was still alive and don't believe what you read "it's all good."

Who lies to Oprah? I wonder if they're on good terms after that.
I would think she would have had him on after Rave or the Grammies but nothing ... no more Oprah appearances after the baby lie.

Does anyone know if she is holding this against him? Are they on good terms ... anybody?

He didn't lie. I believe her question addressed the death of his son. He went off camera but stated "we are STILL a family."

Really? I did see the interview and have it on tape somewhere ... maybe my memory is influenced by that damned CJ who has written in her column that Prince went on Oprah and lied.

The way I interpreted what he said was that what had happened was meant to be and that he and Mayte had accepted what had happened to them. But this is with hindsight. When I first saw the show I had no idea and was waiting for some clue as to whether they had a child or not and the show certainly answered no quesions, merely raised many more. It was strange and uncomfortable.

On the other hand, new mature Prince would just be perfectly at home on Oprah now.

He DID appear on Oprah (in 1996)...but yes, I agree...he definitely needs to go on the show AGAIN! (I think it made Emancipation just that much better/known about/accepted. I know it'll do even more wonders for Musicology...especially the tour.)

Word. The interview would have been much cooler if Oprah didn't get so deep. And what's that crap about asking him if he was teased as a kid because of his size? What did that have to do with anything? Actually now that I think about it, P was probably like good riddance after that interview.

Well, it would've also helped if Oprah wasn't so damn fake with her shit, like she is with almost all of her guests. Like she was really working out to Emancipation.... BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Agreed, that interview was so stagey and artificial. Prince was so uptight it made me squirm and Mayte came across like a made-for-music-video Stepford wife in matching MAC foundation. Prince may not have lied outright to Oprah but he definitely held back the truth. Much has been made of that and some called his behaviour around the death a "cover-up". I am not knocking his decision to keep it private, but I wonder if it might have been a slight embarrassment for her that he didn't acknowledge their child's death on the record. If so, she might not be so eager to interview him again.

Personally, it's all about the numbers. If she can get him, she would do the interview in a second. It would be great for ratings. Also, Sony is backing the album, so I'm sure someone over there in marketing is working on that angle as we debate. And as for the the baby, I'm sure she more than understands why they did not want to talk about it and I'm willing to bet all my money that he was not the last guest to lie to her. All we can do is stay tuned...

PS - I know I would not apper "normal" if my child had died in the past 48 hours.

Apparently she never made it through disc 2 either.

I don't really like her and the only reason I looked forward to her last interview was that I thought she might be able to break down some of his carefully constructed facade and get deep with him. Since it's been shown he easily deflects her attempts to pry anything of interest or truth from him, I wouldn't even bother watching a second interview.
