Was anyone else slightly offended by that comment? I mean, what if I said, "Prince - Let's Go Crazy is the white man's anthem, please always play that in your shows...blah blah blah." Is Adore really only 'for' the black people? It just seems like BET has a very racist agenda.

Yeah, I was a offended, too ... but I just read over it. It is stereotypical though (although I don't think the poster intended offense).

Why would you be offended. Most African-American dig ballads. Rnb ballads do not do well on
Pop or Rock stations. In fact they don't get played on pop or Rock stations. The interviewer was just letting Prince know how much African-Americans love Adore.

Stop being so sensitive and pc.

Laura, stereotyping offends me and causes people to be judged in groups based on generalities. I will continue to be "sensitive" to that since I believe passionately in individualism. I am African American and I prefer rock not soul ballads. I stated my opinion

Thanks SynthiaRose; you broke it down a little better than I did. I'm just surprised at the level of racism displayed on BET. I think it's better to be more inclusive than exclusive. Especially when it comes to music!

Well, in hopes that you weren't terribly offended by that, I think this speaks in a certain context.

R&B radio is more apt to play and warm up to soulful, sensual ballads (see "Adore"). Also, it is perceived that the white audience (though there's more than black and white audiences, but we'll stay within this realm for the discussion) just wants to rock out. So, ballads like "Adore" are acceptable listening to a lot of R&B fans (historically Black), rather than something like "Let's Go Crazy", due to its upbeat, more rock-like sound (solos notwithstanding).

I wasn't terribly offended; you're right. But I just wanted to make the point that the white folks dig the r&B just as much as black and if the music channels continue to propigate the myths, then how do we get past them and let radio play it all like it did back in the day!

I agree, EWM Blows, IMO he does not know his ass from a hole in the ground especially about music!

Ahh, another fan.

So yell me, what is your definition of "knowing about music."

nod My thoughts EXACTLY. If I didn't like Musicology and really thought it sucked ass, I would not be watching a special celebrating it.

So was it my imagination, or did he play some of his old songs? I could have sworn... hmmm
