This special should have been an hour long, what a hack job.

Just watched the Bet version.

Because of the constant plugging at the very end they split screen and you couldn't hear Prince answer the question about the Chappelle show bit, whether it was a true story, anyone catch it?

I caught it....unbelievably he said it was true....damn eek

I enjoyed it. I wish it was longer too. It got me anxious for the concert. It won't hit DC until August. Oh, well, my 6 year old son watched it and enjoyed it and he'll be going to his first Prince concert soon.

the BET version was best because they asked the more interesting questions relevant to black folks like the Chapelle questions and te one about doing Adore.

well, I did think the performance was Ok
and the acoustic set great.

But I can totally understand why someone would think the Musicology songs were "boring."

Prince has given much more kinetic performances. It was a bit sedating at the beginning and I was worried that it would be too calm for the audience ... I thought 'oh lawd!' ... but they stayed with him and seemed to dig it....

As long as it has a beat, people will appear to like it. They're just excited to see Prince, so no matter what he plays, they're gonna groove to it.

I really enjoyed that special. I wish it could have been longer, it just felt so great to actually see prince getting the respect he deserves. I remember just a few years ago, hell i remember last year, when all of my friends would tease me for being a prince fan. they would tell me that he was old and that he had good music back in the 80's (when i was born) but there was no real reason to be into him now. they thought he was a joke and that music is all about 50 cent and jay-z.

guess i got the last laugh.

Not too sure how I feel about Musicology, some things i like and others I dont.. BUT his music is getting too Jazzy with all the sax's and horns.. I didn't like that at all..

ACTUALLY HEARING MUSICOLOGY LIVE ON JAY LENO is the reason why I love that song now. I had never heard it before, but the version from Jay Leno is crazeee. Playing tighten up at the end and then going back into the vamp from Musicology SUBLIME! Anyone feeling that performance Holla!

what i did was tape the BET one in my room and watched the mtv one in the other room in the house...

i found that BET was better because it cut out all those clips from the past like mtv had. Mtv spent like 5 minutes on it, which was not needed, we've seen all of that b4.

Bet incorporated more interview questions and in between showed the concert. Mtv only had what seemed like 2 seconds of interview time at the end.

i'll catch the vh1 showing at a later time this week.

I liked P's p4mance of musicology better on jay's show too. It just blew my mind. But he was still good on this one too. I actually loved when he played with the audience, just comes to show that the little guy can't possibly b serious 24/7, he can crack a joke or 2, and laugh and live a little.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Was anyone else slightly offended by that comment? I mean, what if I said, "Prince - Let's Go Crazy is the white man's anthem, please always play that in your shows...blah blah blah." Is Adore really only 'for' the black people? It just seems like BET has a very racist agenda.

I totally agree ... this should have been a *minimum* one hour long special. What's with 30 minutes? This special would have been a great opportunity to play another song or two from the new album (he is promoting it, right?) Reflection would have been great to close the acoustic set (again more promotion of the new material). Bottom line, whatever he played there should have been more of it.

I'd have preferred a different song instead of Dr. Mister Man-- ICPC would have been great!!

I really enjoyed Dear Mr. Man. It is one of my favorite tracks on the album. I thought he would have performed something like If I was the Man In Your Life, Marrying Kind, etc. Something that rocked hard then Musicology (something funky). Nonetheless, I enjoyed the performances. I liked the arrangement on Dear Mr. Man

Dude, I honestly feel sorry for you. You have to gripe about everything. You would probably complain about someone giving you a million dollars. I usually ignore your posts and overlook your comments, but today its really lame. Your daily complaints give me the same feeling that u claim the Musicology tracks gave you. I'm still trying to figure out why you come here to gripe about EVERYTHING. Is your life that empty? So empty that you complain about everything Prince does? I have no problem with people having an opinion but when people have to criticize every little thing, no matter how insignificant it is, I start wondering about their sanity. What's wrong EWM, why are u so bitter? Is your life that empty?

I agree, EWM Blows, IMO he does not know his ass from a hole in the ground especially about music!

Well, in hopes that you weren't terribly offended by that, I think this speaks in a certain context.

R&B radio is more apt to play and warm up to soulful, sensual ballads (see "Adore"). Also, it is perceived that the white audience (though there's more than black and white audiences, but we'll stay within this realm for the discussion) just wants to rock out. So, ballads like "Adore" are acceptable listening to a lot of R&B fans (historically Black), rather than something like "Let's Go Crazy", due to its upbeat, more rock-like sound (solos notwithstanding).

I actually liked Cream. It was very amusing and well done. I wasn't looking forward to it when I saw it was going to be played. But he did it again. Took a song that I don't really care for and made it the highlight of the show. I think he likes the audience interaction and sponteneity he gets from doing those sets. I do wish he would stir them up a bit on tour...and not just make one song different each time.

I don't know about you guys but each and every perfomance done lately on TV has been outstanding. I can't recall when this much media time/space has been given to one artist...in such a short amount of time. Since the Grammys that guy has been ON FIRE.

I thought he should have done something a bit more exciting than Dear Mr. Man.
The acoustic part was great, but, as usual he didn't play one whole song.
If he had, it could've easily become a new video ala endorphinmachine live, ICNTTPOYM live or Take Me with U live, all of which got played as videos on either MTV or VH1
Still it was pretty amazing that he even got 1/2 hour on all those stations.

Did anyone notice when it ended that VH1, MTV, and BET all immediately went straight back to bling bling and 20 inch rims, etc. (okay, Usher was on MTV, but he's just as boring to me) It was like the prince special had never even happened.
