Giotto is the best artist ever, lol!
"Best" live act? "best" recording artist? "best" songwriter? Elaborate a little on exactly what you mean by "best", otherwise you're bound to get some silly ass responses. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I really think, that what elvis has done for the music industry was fantasic, But prince is a better artist, he write, produces, plays almost all the instrumants, and a great signer, he wins it for me
but there is only 1 king Keenmeister

My mother was a huge Elvis fan but when I first heard that the only song he wrote (actually co-wrote) was "Love Me Tender" I lost a lot of respect. However, Elvis made huge breakthroughs in the music industry, especially breaking down barriers of race among artists and the audience alike. To think of it, Prince helped do the same in the 80s. Elvis did play piano and guitar, but very few have ever come close to being the true musician that Prince is -- and Elvis isn't one of them.

Both. Why do we have to choose? Elvis was what he was and Prince is what he is. I AM BEATLOAF

Prince is Prince and Elvis is, well... Elvis. He's the King! You're talking apples and oranges. They are in completely 2 different classes. Lovesexy Funkateer

AS a songwriter, musician, maybe Elvis cannot compare to Prince but as an artist, all you have to do is look at the cultural impact and his body of work. Most people judge Elvis based on a very little bit of knowledge of his career. Elvis had greater charisma than anyone ever, a great entertainer, had an influence that resonates 50 years after his first recordings. Although not a songwriter, he was a stylist who helped invent and gain a foothold for rock and roll. He went through every American style of music that existed at that time in a way that no one else did. Prince's cultural impact is trivial in comparison. I know nobody here wants to hear that but if you think Elvis was a nothing as a historical, artistic cultural force then, in my mind I dismiss you as being biased beyond changing opinion.

Both were huge musical influences in my life. Without Elvis, I wouldn't even be alive. (long story)
Prince opened me up to a whole different realm of music and spiritual understanding. So therefore I have a deep respect for both and The

And ironically, I would put money on Prince having a much higher regard for Elvis than most of you and most black folks in general. He's the artist of his era and could recognize better than you what Elvis did. He stole Elvis moves going back to the Purple rain tour onwards. Vocally he has imitated him at various times. He has put Elvis in song, albeit not in a flattering way. He has also done his version of early elvis with delirious and Jack U off. It's a silly arguement as most are but there it is.

It is my honest opinion that Prince is the best entertainer EVER
in the history of history... Elvis is the only one who comes close to having Princes charisma, both onstage and off. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I doubt the truth of that statement, because I believe Prince will have more longevity. Prince is a MUCH better dancer, he seems to take MUCH better care of himself and his career than Elvis did.

It makes no sense to post this on a Prince board because it's obvious who is going to be chosen. If this was posted on an Elvis board Elvis would be chosen.
Here is an interesting question? Why would you lose respect for someone if they can't write songs? being a songwriter does not make the albums better. It does not make someone sell more albums. It does not make you a better performer or singer or person. It just makes you a songwriter. Nothing more. Elvis should be respected for all that he accomplished. The attitude a lot of black folks have about Elvis is sad and misguided. Chuck D realized he was wrong and Prince would educate a lot of the Elvis bashers. Anybody that knows anything about Music History respects him. Comparing the two? There are some things Elvis was better at and there are some things Prince is better at.

Yes, yes, yes. Back when Elvis was doing his thing, it wasn't even hugely common for artists to write there own material. Since the Beatles came along it's all about "well, do they write there own material?". Elvis never proclaimed himself to be a songwriter. He said himself that he simply couldn't write songs. But he was not a puppet in the studio either. He produced and arranged almost everything he ever recorded himself. The man also had an awesome voice The truth is, if there was no Elvis, the world would be a different place today. Whether you would like to admit it or not. Nobody has had a bigger impact. Obviously Prince is more talented when it comes to instrumentation and song writing. But in all other areas, I say Elvis has him and just about every other artist in history beat. Just my opinion
