album debuts at #3 final numbers here
http://www.hitsdailydoubl...lescht.cgi 1 - USHER - 257,074 2 - MARIO WINANS - 235,494 3 - PRINCE - 172,349 4 - NOW 15 - 100,412 big enough gap that the 17k concert giveaways won't have any impact at all. Now if they could count all of the concert giveaways for the week, he'd have a shot at #1. As it is, someone said a #3 debut may be the highest a Prince album has ever debuted. Anyone know what Around the world in a day and Batman soundtrack debuted at? Those seem the most likely of the ones that weren't listed before to have had a high debut.

Around the World in a Day and Batman debuted in my house in 1985 and 1989 respectively. Charts wise ...not really sure..

Both ATWIAD and Batman would have debuted before Soundscan, so they would have had that old build up on the charts. Nowadays, established artists often make their highest debuts in the first week because Soundscan can chart all the people who rush out to buy the album...

I'm pretty sure ATWIAD debuted in the top 3 -- at number 1 I think, then quickly fallingé

Yup, I'm fairly certain ATWIAD debuted at number one... It debuted at number one and stayed there for 3 weeks according to my alcohol effected memory. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Kinda sad that he couldn't beat Mario Winans with all this promotion and "free" sales from the concerts...Usher is understandable...but MARIO WINANS?

It sure is sad. Shows you where our world is today. But in the end, it great to see Prince debut so high. He deserves it. Now can he stay there. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Yeah, but I remember some article that said the priced download of the entire album at NPGMC had like 500,000 customers. So, that combined with the sales of the album makes for a damn good final result so far of ppl who were willing to pay for the new music. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

172,349 subtracted by 100,000 concert tickets sold within the past week = 72,349 copies sold in the US. [This message was edited Tue Apr 27 17:18:04 2004 by TheGoldExperience] Hey look, it's The Artist Formely Known To Sell Records

[This message was edited Tue Apr 27 17:18:04 2004 by TheGoldExperience] What the fuck are you talking about? Billboard officially stated that they'd only be counting that one concert of 17,000 CDs "given" away for the first week's tally. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

OK 1 MORE TIME the numbers you see today are actual sales and NOT the cd's givin away at the concert..and there are ONLY about 17,500 to be added.... anyway you have to remember these factors 1. many people downloaded the album already on the music club & several thousand free cd's from earlier concerts were not counted in this weeks total 2.Mario's song got played over 8,000 times this week on top 40 radio to Musicology's NONE 3.and Prince's last album to chart The Rainbow Choldran only got to #108 on the billboard chart far from sad Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

The 17K CD's from the concerts were not added to the total yet. The official tally will be on Thurs.

And GoldExperience, I'm gonna say this once.
The only CDs that are gonna be officially counted towards the first week's sales total are that one concert of about 17,000 albums. This has been officially stated as a FACT. Besides, an album doesn't count as a sold copy, even as a giveaway at a concert, until the person has physically received it at the concert itself. That's why the concert copies have soundscan on the back of them. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

So add 17 000 to that total.

whats with the influx of loosers on the org lately? why are some prince fans so bitter about his success? makes no sense...

it's so great to see Prince back at the top, when it comes down to it who cares about all the facts, figures, and statistics? it's just nice to see him getting the spotlight again like he richly deserves. ...:...Must I become naked?
